🚨 Victory Alert! 🚨 We're thrilled to share that the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County granted our motion for summary judgment in favor of our clients, bringing a fitting close to a two-year business litigation battle! 🏆📜 In our motion, we argued that the plaintiff, Treetop II, LLC, had no standing to pursue claims related to an operating agreement for a separate legal entity that Treetop II was not a party to or had any ownership interest in. The court agreed, finding that Treetop II's claims for accounting and breach of fiduciary duty were unfounded for the same reasons set forth in our motion. This decisive win underscores our commitment to delivering outstanding legal representation and achieving the best outcomes for our clients. Congratulations to our clients and to our dedicated legal team for their hard work in bringing about the favorable result. Stay tuned for more updates and success stories! #LegalVictory #SummaryJudgmentGranted #JusticePrevails

Today, fitting for the Juneteenth holiday, our firm announced the filing of a blockbuster federal civil rights lawsuit to protect the rights of our clients, a Black successful family, to use and enjoy their property in Accokeek, MD on equal basis with that of White residents. Since moving into their elegant waterside residence in the summer of 2020, the lawsuit alleges that Angela and Prince Floyd have been subjected to relentless acts of racial discrimination, intimidation, and harassment by neighbors and community leaders, resulting in over 100 police complaints filed against them and the imposition of several baseless citations. The named defendants have referred to the Floyds as “criminals” and other disparaging characterizations, and they are accused of improperly levying various political connections to target the Floyds with unjustified law enforcement and code enforcement actions, including the installation of “no parking” signs along the Floyds’ property line. “No family should ever have to endure such egregious acts of harassment and discrimination in their own community based on race or ethnicity,” said Managing Attorney Jordan D. Howlette. “This lawsuit seeks swift justice for the Floyds and harsh accountability for those responsible.” Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/eS46Chi7 #Juneteenth #DefendantCivilRights #JusticeForAll #JustlyPrudent

Last weekend, we had the privilege of attending the ACLU’s Biennial Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA. This prestigious event brings together passionate advocates and legal experts from across the nation to collaborate and strategize on ways to protect civil liberties and advance justice. Attorney Howlette serves on the Board of Directors for the ACLU of Maryland and he leads the Equity Committee as the organization's Affiliate Equity Officer. During the Leadership Conference, Attorney Howlette had the unique opportunity to exchange ideas, share insight, and discuss advocacy strategies with civil rights leaders from all walks of life. "The civil rights advocates of today fly high on wings crafted by hands they never shook, and navigate paths illuminated by lights they never lit. As we continue the fight for social justice, legal equity, and societal inclusion, we must never forget those who sacrificed so much for many of us to thrive." - Attorney Jordan D. 🚨 Breaking News: Justly Prudent files wrongful arrest lawsuit against Metropolitan Police Department and one of its officers 🚨 Today, our Civil Rights Division filed a federal lawsuit to seek justice for the egregious actions of a Metropolitan Police Department officer that resulted in the unlawful arrest of a father who simply called 911 to seek assistance for his teenage daughter’s mental health crisis. Rather than provide the requested support, the complaint alleges that the police officer wrongfully accused the father of assaulting his daughter, willfully ignoring the clear and objective evidence to the contrary. Despite the history of prior 911 calls made by the father, the responding officer failed to perform the proper due diligence at the scene, which at a minimum, should have consisted of reviewing the police records, interviewing the mother, and accounting for the clearly visible injuries that the father had sustained in trying to prevent his daughter from harming herself. This case underscores the critical need for police departments to provide routine and comprehensive training to officers on responding to situations involving mental health crises. Failing to provide such training reflects a deliberate indifference to the constitutional rights of those involved in such situations. 🚨Breaking News: Justly Prudent challenges Prince George’s County and Officials over unlawful business closures🚨 Yesterday, our civil rights division filed a federal lawsuit against Prince George’s County and its Nuisance Abatement Board for engaging in an egregious pattern of unlawfully stripping County residents of their constitutional rights under the false pretense of tackling public nuisances. According to the complaint, the seven-member NAB unlawfully seized property belonging to Collision Towing and Auto Body, LLC (“Collision Towing”), and its owner, Cornelius Woods (“Woods”), and ordered the immediate closure of the business based upon common code violations involving trash and debris. The NAB’s closure order has lasted nearly a year despite repeated requests from Woods to lift the order. As a result, Woods lost all his insurance contracts and was forced to lay off nearly a dozen employees, terminate a youth apprenticeship program, and ultimately sell his property just to survive. “The actions taken against Collision Towing and Mr. Woods highlight a broader issue of due process violations and reckless code enforcement occurring unchecked throughout the County that we are determined to rectify,” said Attorney Jordan Howlette, who represents Woods and Collision Towing in the lawsuit. “As we proceed with this case, our goal is not only to seek justice for my clients, but also ensure that the rights of all Prince Georgians are respected and protected under the law.” Read the full press release at: https://lnkd.in/e78wBJCn #JusticeForWoods #ProtectingCivilRights #JustlyPrudent

🚨 Big News: We've Taken a Stand for Worker's Rights! 🚨 We are proud to be representing Taylor Reed Branson in a wage theft lawsuit recently filed against his former employers, World AgroEcology Alliance (WAEA) and Palindromes Inc.. In 2021, the defendants hired Mr. Branson as the Chief Operating Officer for WAEA, where he worked for more than 2 years without ever receiving the full salary promised to him. After inquiring about the more than $170,000 in unpaid wages owed, the defendants terminated Mr. Branson's employment and refused to pay him any of the owed wages. Defendants also intentionally misclassified Mr. Branson as an independent contractor to avoid paying employment taxes and circumventing the laws in the District of Columbia that required them to provide Mr. Branson with certain critical employment benefits (e.g., worker’s compensation, sick leave, etc.). The lawsuit not only seeks justice for Mr. Branson, but it sheds light on the egregious conduct taken by some employers that deprive hard-working employees of important rights and benefits under the law. Thus, our fight is more than just about this one case; it's about setting a precedent that protects all workers from being denied the wages and benefits they rightfully deserve. #WorkersRights #JusticeForAll #JDHowletteLaw #JustlyPrudent
