Juan Gabriel Moreno will be participating in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Bridging Talents & Opportunities (BTO) 2024 Forum on Saturday, October 12th! Moderated by Roberto Rigobon, the panel "Empowering Journeys: Leadership Insights from Successful Business Leaders" will feature Juan Gabriel Moreno and Ignacio Meyer (TelevisaUnivision) as speakers. As a Latino architect, Juan will share his personal and professional journey, discussing the challenges he overcame on his path to founding one of the largest Latino-owned architecture firms in the US. The BTO Forum is dedicated to empowering STEAM students from low-income, underserved communities—many of whom are the first in their families to break barriers and pursue higher education. This forum seeks to inspire these future leaders, reaffirming that their dreams are not only possible but entirely within reach. Today JGMA's project from the archive is the Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep Phase I (2014)! This project addresses the pressing issue of big-box store abandonment across the United States by transforming a former retail building into a state-of-the-art learning academy. The strategic location was chosen not only to invest in the community but also to breathe new life into a space that holds significance for local residents, creating a sustainable high school that fosters educational excellence. JGMA’s connection to Cristo Rey St. Martin extends well beyond the creation of this innovative school. Through our participation in their career fairs and internship programs, we've had the privilege of witnessing how CRSM inspires students to pursue higher education—some even aspiring to become architects themselves. We are deeply honored to play a part in shaping a future where every student has the chance to rise, thrive, and make a meaningful impact on their community! Today JGMA's project from the archive is the Chicago Lakeside Retail Masterplan (2014)! Located near Steelworkers Park, on the southeastern edge of Chicago, this master plan was created to revitalize an area long overlooked. Designed as a catalyst for reactivating the site and its surrounding neighborhoods, the Chicago Lakeside Retail Master Plan envisioned a vibrant, walkable community where engagement and growth could flourish. By carefully blending street-front retail and inviting overhead terraces, the design aimed to create spaces where residents could build meaningful connections, celebrate local culture, and spark new life into the area—paving the way for a new era of opportunity and hope.
