Our business immigration partner, Matthew, shares his thoughts following the recent AILA Department of State Liaison Committee meeting. We are delighted to have his expertise on our team!
The AILA Department of State Liaison Committee meeting has been a great success! This marked my first opportunity to attend in-person since being nominated to the committee in May this year. During the meeting, I had the privilege of connecting with my fellow committee members, as well as engaging directly with representatives from the U.S. Department of State on a variety of issues related to visa processing at U.S. embassies around the world. As immigration attorneys, we are not just focused on resolving individual cases. We are, ultimately, shaping the future of U.S. society, from family reunifications to employment-based visas, helping to maintain America’s role as a global leader in innovation and progress. This work strengthens not only our clients' futures but also the long-term competitive strength of the U.S. I’m grateful for the invaluable collaboration with my highly-respected colleagues from across the country and the world, and especially for the cooperation of the esteemed officials from the U.S. Department of State. Together, we’re tackling the technical, legal, and policy issues that affect U.S. citizens, foreign nationals, their families, and employers at consulates abroad.

Our business immigration partner Matthew Kolodziej led a wonderful panel last week at the AILA Fall Conference in Texas - check out the summary and his takeaways below.
Last Friday, I had the privilege of moderating one of the PERM track panels at the @AILA Fall Conference in Dallas. During our panel discussion with @Robin O’Donoghue and @Carly Hetland, we explored three advanced topics related to sponsoring foreign employees for green cards: 📌Timing in Relation to NIV Expiration and Familial Relationships 📌Audit Triggers and Financial Issues 📌Inadmissibility Issues and DACA/TPS It's worth noting that even minor mistakes in these areas can lead to denials or delays in the application process, leading to additional wait times for applicants—especially those from China🇨🇳 and India🇮🇳—that extend for years, due to the backlogs. It was a great opportunity to share our own practical experiences and insights on these important topics. It was also wonderful to reconnect with fellow immigration attorneys and forge new connections. I also appreciated AILA's focus on exploring AI tools in our practice. As attorneys, we must remain curious and open-minded. Just as social media transformed how we promote our services over the past decade, AI is the next wave🌊 that could fundamentally change our profession. Let’s catch the wave and keep an eye on new innovations that can elevate our practice! #aila #ailaconference #immigrationlawyer #immigration

Four days until the AILA Fall Conference in Dallas and we are gearing up for Jia Law Group’s Matthew Kolodziej as he leads a panel on Friday at 11am. We can’t wait to connect with all of our fellow attorneys there!
We’re excited to announce that our business immigration partner, Matthew Kolodziej, will be speaking at the American Immigration Lawyers Association Fall Conference in Dallas, Texas, this September. As a member of both the AILA DOS Liaison and Conference Program Committees, Matthew will lead a session titled “Initial Consultation Issues: Know When to Hold ’Em, Know When to Fold ’Em” at 11 a.m. on September 27th. In this session, panelists will explore potential challenges faced by first-time filers and smaller companies during the PERM process, including: ⚡ Timing concerns related to nonimmigrant visa expiration ⚡ Triggers for audits ⚡ Financial issues, such as ability-to-pay and economic considerations ⚡ Implications of family and closely held relationships We look forward to the insights Matthew and the AILA team will share at this event - especially following the success and our enjoyment of the June conference in Chicago! Will we see you there?
