We believe in the power of communication to save lives, by enabling people to adopt healthy behaviors.
About us
More than 35 years ago, the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs was created to recognize the crucial role of communication in public health. We remain leaders in social and behavior change today because we understand that words matter, that community matters and that only by working together can we improve the health of individuals, families and communities around the world. We believe in the power of communication to save lives, by enabling people to adopt healthy behaviors for themselves, their families and their communities We work with governments and NGOs, providers and clients, community health workers and religious leaders, and men and women who simply want healthier lives for those they love. We stand alongside partners rooted in the communities where we work to better understand the needs of those we serve – and help them advocate for what they need to break down the barriers standing in the way of sustainable change.

To support policymakers and implementers in bridging this gap, the HIPs Resources page offers practical tools and guidance on bringing these proven practices to life. Explore resources like: 🔹 A podcast series featuring real-world experiences on HIP implementation checklists that help countries identify actionable next steps to integrate the HIPs into their country plans 🔹 An adolescent-friendly policy scorecard to evaluate the accessibility of contraceptive services for youth 🔹 Case studies demonstrating the implementation of the HIPs during the COVID-19 pandemic and across the development-humanitarian continuum 🤝 As a HIP partner organization, CCP is committed to turning evidence into action. 🆕 77,000 girls. 800 schools. One mission: End period stigma in #Liberia.🩸 🇱🇷 Working alongside the country's ministries of health, education, and gender, the CCP-led Breakthrough ACTION-Liberia project has provided 77,000 girls with sanitary pads to help them manage their periods with dignity. It's part of a broader effort to normalize menstruation while supporting girls with the resources they need to stay in school and thrive. 💬 “By distributing packs of sanitary pads in schools, girls may no longer see menstruation or the lack of sanitary products as a barrier to attending class,” says CCP’s Lindsey Leslie, MSPH. 🇳🇬 When two men in Nigeria died after crossing a river, the community falsely believed the river itself was deadly and a rumor quickly spread. Health promotion officer Sani Hassan stepped in. Thanks to training by CCP through Breakthrough ACTION-Nigeria, he was equipped to work with local leaders to uncover the truth: Lassa fever was the real cause, not the river. His efforts restored trust and saved lives in Bauchi State. 👉 Learn more about how CCP’s infodemic management training has helped communities like Sani's overcome dangerous #misinformation in #Nigeria.

💬 "Working closely with those who understand the cultural and social norms in each context will be critical to moving the needle on creating a more enabling environment for uptake of reproductive health services," says CCP's Uttara Bharath Kumar who will lead our work on a newly awarded $100 million global sexual health project. The Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH 2) project, led by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), will bring inclusive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to hard-to-reach populations in seven countries in east and southern Africa. 🌎 As we mark #WorldContraceptionDay, we're excited about this opportunity to support 10.4 million family planning users by addressing barriers that keep women and adolescents from meeting their reproductive health goals. 🔗 Read the full story: https://bit.ly/3zvAb5I #IPPF | #FCDO | #SRHR | #SBC | #sexualhealth | #reproductivehealth | #genderequity Joanna Skinner | International Rescue Committee | Ipas | Debora Freitas Lopez

💬 "This project will support 10.4 million family planning users and avert 15,100 maternal deaths across seven countries." We're celebrating exciting news this #WorldContraceptionDay —our newly funded global sexual health work with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF)! 🎉
I am excited to share that Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs is partnering with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) on the newly awarded Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) 2 project, with funding from the UK government. Our role will be to address social norms and barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. This project will support 10.4 million family planning users and avert 15,100 maternal deaths across seven countries. I am so proud of the team that made this possible. Women and their partners have a right to decide if and when to have children, and women should not die giving birth! https://lnkd.in/gY8r_gA4
