Some exciting news: JOIN OR DIE — our film about why you should join a club…and why the fate of America depends on it — just launched on Netflix! In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America's civic unraveling through the journey of legendary Harvard social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking "Bowling Alone" research into America's decades-long decline in community connections could hold the answers to our democracy's present crisis. Flanked by influential fans and scholars as well as inspiring groups building community in neighborhoods across the country, join Bob as he explores three urgent civic questions: What makes democracy work? Why is American democracy in crisis? And, most importantly… What can we do about it? This is a film meant to be watched together — so we hope you can host a community screening in your neighborhood or at your institution. To start the process, head over to Host.JoinOrDieFilm.com. So much of the national conversation these days is intensifying our civic ills: polarization, screen addiction, alienation, distrust, and distraction from local community problem-solving. We hope JOIN OR DIE being more widely available can expand our efforts to offer critical counterprogramming: an urgent message that the fate of our democracy depends on our real-world engagement with our neighbors and routine participation in our local communities.

JOIN OR DIE's 2024 Join Up! Tour is in full swing. Earlier this year, we invited any community organization, congregation, campus, conference, or company—big or small—to use the film as a tool to bring people together to talk about civic rejuvenation. So far, over 2500 groups (and counting!) have requested a screening—and hundreds of screening events have already been hosted. Today, we wanted to share the 3 ways you can keep the momentum going by seeing the film and helping spread its civic message: 1. ATTEND SCREENINGS NEAR YOU: See JOIN OR DIE in theaters or at a public community screening. Our hope remains that, in the spirit of the film’s message, most viewers find a way to see the film together, in community. However, we have decided to create this one-month window for home rentals for two reasons: First, so more people interested in hosting community screening events can see the film for the first time as they consider and plan their event; and second, so we can continue our Join Up! Tour into next year (proceeds from home rentals will go towards us continuing the film’s community tour into 2025).
