#Languages Spoken at Home by Fairfax County Elementary Students --"Within Fairfax County there are a total of 161 different languages or dialects spoken in the homes of elementary school students during 2022-2023 school year. The data visualized represents the information obtained from the Home #Language Survey which is included in the school enrollment forms bundle. Kenneth Katzner's 'Languages of the World' was used to determine language groups for various dialects. The World Atlas of Language Structures and Glottolog were also used to further help in assigning languages to the proper group as well as determine which regions of the world languages are spoken." The #Russian #Language Day is celebrated on 6 June – the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. "This Day was set by the decision of the UN Department of Public Information in 2010. "May 24 commemorates the work of the brothers Constantine (Cyril) (827-869) and Methodius (815-885), Byzantine missionaries born in Salonica, who devised the Glagolitic in AD 855 or 862-863. The Cyrillic, from which the modern Slav nations' alphabets are derived, came 40-50 years later, c. AD 902-912. Like the Roman script, it was adapted by scholars of the Preslav Literary School from the Greek alphabet, borrowing the latter's all 24 characters and adding 24 new ones for specific Slav sounds. The Slav alphabet was adopted in Bulgaria in AD 886 as a vehicle of enforcing Old #Bulgarian as the single national and liturgical #language. From Bulgaria, the script spread to other Slav countries and is now used by some 250 million people worldwide in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, North Macedonia and Croatia. Private Moon Lander Will Carry 'Memory Disk' Of 275 #Languages This Year -- "ispace, a Japanese lunar exploration company that's working to put more human presence in space, has teamed up with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to take an important part of our humanity and preserve it on the moon during its upcoming Hakuto-R Mission 2, which will send a robotic lander to the lunar surface.
