🥊Employee Advocate 🔄 Counter to Human Resources 💰 Commission Finder 🔎 Founder/CEO 🔥 Entrepreneur🏌♂️ 🏖. I consult on severance, PIPs, employment matters and more.

Who does human resources work for? What is their job supposed to be? Have you ever had a successful outcome resolving an issue with HR? Did they ever go to bat for you against leadership? Did they put their neck out on the line to do the right thing on your behalf or did you get lip service, and they protected their standing with leadership. HR is there to protect the company and appease the employees. A good human resources person will advise leadership to avoid liability. Not necessarily to do the right thing for the employee. Which is the facade in which the role is presented to employees. Have you ever filed a complaint with Human Resources? How did it work out for you?

📄 Ready to level up your resume? 📄 In a competitive market, your resume needs to quickly showcase your impact, not just your responsibilities. Here's how to do it:   1️⃣ Start with a Strong Summary Statement Your summary is your first impression, so make it count by showcasing your top skills and biggest achievements. Think of it as your "story" that highlights your strengths. 👉 Example: Instead of "Experienced project manager in IT," try a more robust summary like: "Project Manager with 8+ years in IT, specialising in delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget. Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and implementing process improvements, reducing project delivery time by an average of 15%. Known for developing client-focused solutions and optimising resources to consistently exceed project goals." This gives hiring managers a snapshot of your expertise, accomplishments, and impact.   2️⃣ Quantify Your Achievements  Quantifying your accomplishments adds credibility and detail to your experience. Metrics give hiring managers a clear picture of your impact, even in non-sales roles. 👉 Example: Instead of saying "Improved team productivity," say "Enhanced team productivity by implementing new project management tools, reducing project turnaround time by 20% and boosting client satisfaction scores by 15%." This highlights concrete outcomes and your role in driving them.   3️⃣ Tailor Your Skills to the Job Customise your skills section to align with the job description, focusing on hard skills that are relevant to the role. Hiring managers should instantly see that you have the tools to succeed in the specific position. 👉 Example: If applying for a data analysis role, list "SQL, Python, Data Visualization (Tableau), Statistical Analysis" at the top of your skills section. These keywords make it clear that you're a strong technical match.   4️⃣ Include Key Accomplishments Under Each Role Under each job experience, add 1-2 specific accomplishments that show the impact you made. Use action verbs to keep it dynamic and engaging. 👉 Example: Instead of "Responsible for overseeing IT infrastructure projects," try "Led infrastructure overhaul, reducing system downtime by 30% and cutting maintenance costs by $100K annually." This turns a general duty into a measurable achievement.   💡 Final Tip: Think of your resume as a highlight reel. By focusing on results, specific skills, and achievements, you create a strong snapshot of your value—and make it easy for hiring managers to see why you're the perfect fit.   If you want to learn how to craft a document that not only showcases your skills but also captures the attention of hiring managers and recruiters. join this free webinar that Alan Stein will lead on Wed Nov 13th at 12 p.m EST/5 p.m UK/6 p.m CET.
