The Moral Failure of the Grants Pass Decision. "Eventually, Americans will undoubtedly be forced to grapple with the unequal distribution of land in this country and its dire consequences for so many millions of us." Rev. "The streets of Asheville and neighboring towns have been filled with cars with out-of-state license plates, as everyday people with various skills have driven in from all over the country to lend a hand." "Our politicians, news agencies, and larger population must stop paying homage to billionaires who will profit off our predicaments or politicians who will try to capitalize on any crisis. It’s time to see that projects of survival and solidarity among those struggling the most are our only true hope for a future that will otherwise be ever more perilous." Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis via Truthout https://lnkd.in/gYk78BSG

"Truly, as the experiences of Hurricane Helene — and now Hurricane Milton, Nadine, and potentially others, too — have proven, the economic disparities that are laid bare and intensified by the climate crisis are absent from the supposed “economic populism” of climate-change deniers." On October 17, the Kairos Center is bringing together experts on the economy, militarism, the rise of authoritarianism and Project 2025, alongside religious leaders and organizers, to offer a concrete analysis of our current context and how our movements and organizations are responding. "I believe that all organizers should be cultural organizers because although people are driven into movement due to the conditions they face, it is not always enough to keep them in struggle for the long haul. The role of cultural organizing is to align our minds, hearts, and spirit with our values in order to build a movement—a social force that can bring about social change—across lines of historic division." Thank you to The Forge and Adalah Justice Project for helping me share this message on the role of cultural organizing over the past year to demand a permanent ceasefire, a free Palestine, and an arms embargo to end Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Please share and let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/eJw2mk_p #culturalorganizing #FreePalestine #CeasefireNow

"The late Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, often emphasized the transformative power that singing especially has in developing leaders in movement, suggesting that as people change, their singing reflects this inner transformation with a new and unique sound." Our cities are now full of people like Debra Black, who said in her statement in the Grants Pass case, “I am afraid at all times in Grants Pass that I could be arrested, ticketed, and prosecuted for sleeping outside or for covering myself with a blanket to stay warm.” She died while the case was being litigated, owing the city $5,000 in unpaid fines for the crime of sleeping outdoors. https://lnkd.in/gi2nyDcx
