Today, we are proud to dedicate a mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home to U.S. Army Veteran Dennet Oregon. At just 19, inspired by the events of 9/11, Dennet joined the military and served in Afghanistan before suffering life-altering injuries from an IED explosion.
After enduring 18 months of intense treatment, he lost both legs below the knee but remained dedicated to serving his country. Now, Dennet and his family will have a home built for his needs, allowing them to live comfortably and focus on building new memories together.
We are truly honored to provide this home for Dennet, a testament to his service, resilience, and the incredible strength of his family. It’s our privilege to support him in this next chapter of life.
"Since I left Walter Reed Hospital, everywhere I've lived I haven't been able to use my wheelchair," said Dennet. "I've had to put it in storage. I'm going to actually use my wheelchair here. That alone is going to make a huge difference."
A special thank you to the American people and our amazing partners, without whom this would not be possible: Amazon, Simple Green, JELD-WEN, Inc., and Gehr Industries.
