Reviewing compound hit and lead data is such a core part of a biotech’s workflow… so why is it such a painful challenge? Hours and hours of manual work, every week, across numerous functions and seniorities. At first glance, the problem seems simple. As Jesse Johnson described in a May issue of his Scaling Biotech newsletter: “a hit dashboard is just a table, right?”. But, as he goes on to explain, the hard part isn’t making a table. It’s all the work that goes into getting the right data and context into the table. Everything from where the data is (and how to find it), to the question of how to capture relevant experimental context or represent multiple experimental iterations — all of this introduces significant complexity. The end result is people (often very senior people) have to spend heaps of hours, manually constructing these tables. And not infrequently — reviewing compound performance can be a weekly event. Not only is this a massive waste of time, but the process leaves huge gaps for expensive errors to occur: out of date information, unverifiable results, missed context that could sway a major pipeline decision. Kaleidoscope comparison dashboards are our way to tackle this exact problem. By leveraging Kaleidoscope, biotechs are able to spin up compound leaderboards on the fly, to compare any combination of assets, sets, and parameters that they care about. And because Kaleidoscope connects directly into the other tools and data stores that a team uses, these candidate dashboards can distill data down into a digestible format, while preserving any critical context that needs to be factored into the decision-making. The net result? A lean, efficient, and robust engine for driving reliable and fast decision-making, based on your latest data and most pressing goals. Interested in finding out more? This week's conversation with Bogdan Knezevic, founder of Kaleidoscope.bio, was so much fun! We talked about how companies can streamline operations and save money (and we love saving money!) Simply put, most organizations do not clearly define goals and track progress toward those goals. In biopharma, that means tracking data points and avoiding shiny object syndrome. Check out this episode to learn some simple tactics to stay on track and keep the organization lean. #podcast #biotechnologypodcast #biotechstartup #operationalefficiency #projectmanagement

On a scale from 1-10, how efficient do you think your company is? I had a fantastic conversation with Bogdan Knezevic, founder of Kaleidoscope Bio, about optimizing discovery and commercialization workflows. We scientists often have a bit of shiny object syndrome. That's just a fact. Curiosity is at the heart of what we do, but it means that focusing on gathering the actual data needed to complete milestones and get drugs approved and into the hands of patients can be a slog. To that end, here are a few insights from our talk: 1️⃣ The power of clearly defined goals in driving team progress. 2️⃣ Reducing operational overhead to maximize R&D efficiency. 3️⃣ Handling pivots gracefully without disrupting team momentum. You’ll find Bogdan’s perspective incredibly useful if you're involved in biotech at any level. Tune in to learn how to streamline your workflow and keep your projects on track. #podcast #biotech #biotechstartup #biotechnology #BuildingBiotechs

All data is equal, but some data is more equal than others. Everyone’s data is important. But only certain pieces of that data drive the big decisions behind your drug program. This critical subset should be front and center for everyone to see, while the rest of it can remain the domain of the people most directly involved. By focusing on this ‘decision-relevant‘ data, teams bring a powerful level of clarity to their work. It ensures that people are spending time, energy, and resources on the most pressing stuff, while minimizing the chance that they're losing track of goals and running unbound experiments. In a world where a month of R&D operations can easily cost you $1M or more, and everything is a race towards the next inflection point, this level of focus is supremely important. In fact, the process of compiling, distilling, and presenting key data is so critical that high-performing teams will spend a day per week doing it, if that’s what it takes. Our belief at Kaleidoscope is that this data distillation is absolutely critical, but that spending 20% of your time doing it is far too expensive. That’s why we built a platform that hooks into all your major data sources and automatically pulls the stuff that matters most for your decision-making. For more on how teams are leveraging Kaleidoscope to drive this critical process, check out some example stories: https://lnkd.in/eV9esnHN And if you have any strategies that work well for focusing your team on the data that matters, share them in the comments below!
