We deliver fresh, healthy and affordable food to local businesses in neighborhoods lacking access.
About us
Kanbe’s Markets provides access to fresh, healthy foods in the areas of Kansas City designated by the USDA as a “food desert”, where residents lack consistent access to healthy and affordable food. Our goal is to eliminate food insecurity by providing a distribution model that includes more people, enhances small businesses, and improves communities, one neighborhood at a time.

Today, we want to shine a spotlight on the extraordinary WellSky team, whose invaluable contributions to our daily mission has made such a meaningful difference. Your time and energy helps us turn surplus into sustenance. It's Kanbe's 8th birthday today! On this date in 2016, we made our first ever produce delivery. Since then, our team has grown, we've redirected millions of pounds of produce from landfills, and provided countless meals to Kansas Citians. We literally tried to count, but couldn't. Thanks to supporters, benefactors, community partners, team members, and customers for believing in our mission, validating our work, and sharing in our vision happier, healthier, more equitable future for our city. We love you and cannot express our gratitude enough.

Last night, we hosted our #HungerActionMonth Ugly Dinner at Thelma's Kitchen, where we were able to spotlight the immense talents of Chef Natasha Bailey and recognize the incredible work done at Reconciliation Services. The five-course dinner featured “ugly” produce presented beautifully, and helped us raise nearly $30,000 to take meaningful action against food insecurity in Kansas City. Special thanks to Mayor Quinton Lucas for joining us!

Last week, we kicked off Kanbe’s Markets Madness, pitting your favorite fruits and vegetables against one to crown one ultimate winner! After hundreds of votes, we’ve now narrowed our bracket down to 32—see below for the results, and make your Round 2 picks here: https://lnkd.in/gBe6T4wn 1. Everyday Favorite Fruits: Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t count—a contentious match-up between #11 Lime and #6 Lemon came down to A SINGLE VOTE, with Lime moving on. #5 Cherry also fell to #12 Avocado (yes, a pit is a seed!). 2. Tropical Fruits: Are tropical fruits… boring? They were in Round 1. We didn’t see a single upset within this region, with every single #1-8 seed moving onto the second round. 3. Fridge & Pantry Essential Vegetables: We knew we’d see some controversy in this sectional: #12 Spinach toppled #5 Bell Pepper, but #11 Jalapeño couldn’t pull off the upset over #6 Corn. 4. Specialized & Seasonal Vegetable: It was a great time to be a leafy green in two of our Seasonal v. Specialized matchups, as #10 Arugula and #11 Romaine Lettuce knocked off #7 Pumpkin and #6 Yellow Squash. Check out our IG stories or make your Round 2 picks here! Every vote counts.
