Check out this post from the Kansas Travel at KansasTravel.org Facebook group! 🔄 Repost: "The 40th Parallel Marker is also known as the Cast Iron Marker. It was cast in St. Louis, Missouri and erected on May 8, 1855. To visit this, drive north of White Cloud, Kansas 2.5 miles to the Nebraska State Line where you will find a historic marker about the "Point of Beginning of the Public Land Surveys of the Sixth Principal Meridian" beside the road. About 80 yards north, there is a trail which leads up to the top of bluff where you will find this obelisk which is a monument to the starting point for surveying the 40th Parallel. There is a guest register and an information station. The trail up the bluff is pretty steep and the walk is probably risky when the ground is wet, but it was dry when I visited last week. There is a railing to hold on to and someone in average condition can do it." Click here to view the post: https://lnkd.in/guYjKpPt

Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90° for at least 2 days. In extreme heat, your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. Extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards. In cases of extreme heat, here are some tips to help you stay safe: • Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothes. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays. • Keep strenuous activity to a minimum during the hottest parts of the day (11am–2pm), and use a buddy system. • Make sure you drink LOTS of WATER to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration, heat stroke & more. Even if you don’t feel thirsty. • Got heat cramps? Rest in a cool place & drink a beverage containing electrolytes and sodium, like a sports drink. • When working outdoors, recognize when someone is suffering from dehydration or heat stroke & act quickly! Learn the signs at https://lnkd.in/eRXZR2m • Get trained in first aid to learn how to treat heat-related emergencies. #BeatTheHeat #SummerSafety #HeatSafety

Last week, KSLS had a fantastic time at the 96th Kansas FFA Convention. At the opportunity fair, Secretary-Treasurer James Meis connected with quality young people who could be future land surveyors. During the fifth session, Executive Director Brad Parker, ᴍʙᴀ, ᴄᴀᴇ congratulated the land and homesite evaluation teams that KSLS and its foundation co-sponsor to the national event. We're excited about what is to come and the potential collaborations with the committed future leaders in FFA! #kansasffa Kansas FFA Foundation Inc.
