  • 🙃 Are you ready for the coming changes? Don't get caught off guard! CA Prop65 changes set to affect anyone buying or selling direct thermal are quickly approaching. BPS, a common component of traditional direct thermal papers, will be subject to news laws and regulations starting DEC. 29th 2024. If these changes are not on your radar, consider the following: Proposition 65 enforcement can be carried out by: - The California Attorney General - A district attorney or city attorney of a city with a population of over 750,000 - Private parties acting in the public interest Penalties for not labeling a product in compliance with Proposition 65 include:  - Civil penalties: Up to $2,500 per day for each violation  - Stop committing the violation: A court may order the business to stop the violation  - Legal penalties: Businesses may be sued by Prop 65 plaintiffs' lawyers If this information leaves you with more questions than answers, your not alone. Many industries and businesses are struggling to navigate the nuances of these new requirements. 😨 What are some of your biggest questions when it comes to these changes? • 🤓 Are you looking for some clarification on "Phenol-Free" vs "No-Phenol-Added" Direct Thermal, Phenols vs Bisphenols? Imminent regulatory changes are coming to CA and WA and more states are lining up to consider adopting similar restrictions. These changes directly affect the DT paper industry. Both impending regulations impose restrictions on the presence of, specifically, Bisphenols. The regulations DO NOT impose restrictions on all phenols. So why is everyone saying Phenol-Free? Kanzaki will use the term "No-Phenols-Added" in place of "Phenol-Free" Why exactly? ❌ Phenol-Free: This claim is often misused; it implies the product is entirely free of phenolic substances. This would be nearly impossible to achieve or prove. For this reason, it can potentially be misleading and less defensible. ✅ No-Phenol-Added: This term indicates that no additional phenols were intentionally added during the manufacturing process. However, this does not mean that the product is completely free of all phenolic substances or downstream contaminants. In other words, although these products are designed and manufactured to be compliant in all states, the term "No-Phenols-Added" acknowledges the possibility of trace or even undetectable contamination. Making it a more accurate and defensible statement, while remaining compliant. Understanding these distinctions is essential for making informed decisions that align with your organization’s safety regulations, sustainability goals and overall integrity. Check out the attached to read more and ensure you're choosing the right type of direct thermal paper for your needs and service areas.
