  • KLP Scholar Spotlight: Meet Minerva R., a force to be reckoned with—a CUNY Hostos Community College student paving the way for change in Esports. Combining her love for gaming with a deep passion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, she’s at the forefront of this evolving industry. “Women where we are from are not expected to be successful or provide for themselves… My mom wants me to live a life where I can make my own decisions and not rely on anyone, so I can achieve my dreams.” This mindset drives Minerva to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. 🎮 A skilled gamer since age 8, Minerva is a proud Business Management major at Hostos Community College. Despite juggling multiple roles, she remains determined to excel in every area of her life. In her free time, she enjoys anime, knows some Korean, and dreams of visiting Japan to explore its rich culture and value system. Favorite Quote: "In chess, the idea that women are inferior to men is a trope I refuse to accept." – Eefje "Sjoks" Depoortere, renowned chess player and Twitch streamer. Minerva embraces this mindset, rejecting stereotypes in gaming and beyond. A Passion for Change: Beyond her gaming career, Minerva is actively working to address the challenges women face in the Esports industry, particularly the toxic behavior, harassment, and mental health struggles. She is committed to creating a safer, more inclusive environment where all gamers can thrive. 💼 Big Dreams: Minerva is actively exploring internship opportunities at Idaho National Laboratory for next summer. With a strong network behind her, she’s determined to build a pathway to success. Through her mentorship with Monica Mendez at Women in Games International, Minerva credits Monica as the catalyst who helped her envision a future in the Esports industry—not just as a hobby, but as a viable career. Minerva’s journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to inspire others with her dedication to gaming, equality, and change! 🎮✨ #MeetMinerva #WomenInGaming #Esports #BusinessManagement #GamingCommunity #BreakingBarriers #KLPCommunity #Inspiration #KLPScholar
