About us

The Kansas City Mavericks ice hockey team is a member of the ECHL, the premier "AA" hockey league in the United States. They play in Independence, Missouri, USA, located near Kansas City, Missouri, at the Cable Dahmer Arena. The Mavericks were created on April 16, 2009 as a member of the Central Hockey League, with the name, logo and colors decided by fans via the local newspaper, The Examiner. After five seasons in the Central Hockey League, the Mavericks were one of six teams taken from the CHL and added to the East Coast Hockey League, the premier "AA" hockey league of the NHL. The brief tenure in the ECHL has been successful thus far for the Mavericks, who took home the Brabham Cup for the league's best regular season record, in addition to a division title, in the 2015-16 season. On March 11, 2017 the Mavericks announced a name change to the Kansas City Mavericks from the Missouri Mavericks to become more inclusive of their broad Greater Kansas City fan base.
