AFCP 2.0 Being Retired The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is terminating the After Final Consideration Pilot Program 2.0 (AFCP 2.0) on December 14, 2024. The decision comes after a proposed fee to offset the program's costs faced public opposition. AFCP 2.0 allowed applicants to request reconsideration of their patent applications after a final rejection. However, the high usage of the program led to significant administrative costs for the USPTO. Although the program was initially set to expire on September 30, 2024, the USPTO has extended the deadline to December 14, 2024, to give applicants time to adjust. After December 14th, applicants will still have other options for after-final consideration, such as routine examination practice amendments, examiner interviews, and pre-appeal brief requests for review. https://lnkd.in/ebRfkBuC
