We are hopeful for impactful policies and changes that will shape the future of housing and homeownership for communities nationwide. Here’s to a hopeful term filled with growth and change for everyone! Did You Know? Many voters were unaware of the housing platform that the president-elect Donald J Trump is proposing. Now that election day is complete, let's take a look at what's to come. Donald Trump has housing policies he is hoping to put forth during the next four years. Let’s take a gander at them: 1. Housing Supply: · Eliminate excessive regulations that contribute to increased housing costs. · Designate specific areas of federal land for the development of affordable housing. · Implement a minimum 10% tariff on all imports from every country. 2. Housing Demand: · Encourage homeownership with tax incentives and assistance for first-time buyers. · Lower mortgage rates by addressing inflation effectively.     ✊🏾 Honoring Black Solidarity Day with Keepingly® ✊🏾 Today, we recognize Black Solidarity Day. A powerful day of reflection, awareness, and unity for Black communities across the nation.   What is Black Solidarity Day and how did it originate? What does it mean? On the Monday before Election Day, we come together to observe a meaningful occasion called Black Solidarity Day. This day is all about unity within Black communities, where many of us choose to step back from work, school, and shopping. It’s a time for reflection and collective action, reminding us of the vital social, political, and economic contributions that Black individuals make to our country every single day. Black Solidarity Day was created in 1969 by Dr. Carlos Russell, an inspirational Afro-Panamanian activist, scholar, and playwright. His vision was sparked by Douglas Turner Ward's play, A Day of Absence. This day encourages us to unite and empowers Black Americans to think about our roles and influences in society, while also amplifying our calls for equality, equity, and justice. It’s not just a day on the calendar; it’s a celebration of our strength and community! The Homeownership Gap As we honor Black Solidarity Day, it’s necessary to recognize the continued disparities in homeownership. Statistics show that Black Americans face challenges in homeownership opportunities: The Black homeownership rate remains significantly lower than that of white Americans. Black homeownership is lower today than it was in 2000 ( 44.3% vs 45.7%) Black homeowners face higher loan denial rates (2.6%). More than 24% of Black families who applied for home loans were denied in 2022. Black homeowners/ buyers tend to pay higher mortgage rates. Targeted policies and programs can help more black families become homeowners. Generational wealth gaps mean that many Black buyers must work harder to build down payments and qualify for homeownership. At Keepingly® , we genuinely believe in making homeownership fair and accessible for everyone. Today, let’s take a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come together, while also acknowledging that there’s still much work ahead of us.     🎃 Happy Halloween from Keepingly! 🎃 We want to wish you and your loved ones a safe and fun-filled Halloween! With the holidays approaching, excitement is in the air, but it’s also the perfect time to pay extra attention to our home’s safety and security, which should be done at the beginning or end of each season. At Keepingly, we’re here to make that part easy! Along with your security system, there are plenty of simple ways to protect your home and keep things running smoothly. Here are a few we recommend: 👻 Review your insurance policy: Make sure it’s up to date and reflects any recent upgrades or changes. Make sure your personal information is accurate, your coverage limits are still adequate based upon your current situation and/or future events such as marriage, divorce, having a child/ren, and home upgrades. Make sure you are not paying for unnecessary coverage, but make sure your current coverage is best for you. 🎃 Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: It’s a quick check that makes a big difference! Change batteries, replace defective detectors, and make sure to test that they are working correctly. 🍂 Trim bushes and grass: Keeping your hedges and bushes trimmed, grass cut, and dried leaves tidy can help make your home a safer space. The gutters need to be carefully cleaned so you do not have to experience roof, water, or any structural damage. Dried debris can become a fire hazard, which no one wants to deal with. 🧹 Stay on top of electrical maintenance: Check the electrical sockets around the home and test your breaker panel for any hazards. Flickering lights, wall sockets that don’t work or only half work, and appliances that take a lot of electricity to run can be spooky any time of year and could cause major structural issues for your home! For any issue, it may be time to get an electrical maintenance walk-through. 🌬️ Get vents and chimneys cleaned: You’ll keep your home cozier and safer all season long! You will have peace of mind knowing your home will not have any fire scares. But, you can make sure to improve your indoor air quality for your family and can help your HVAC system operate more efficiently. Save money on your energy bills! 📋 Create a seasonal maintenance checklist: Each season brings new weather and upkeep needs. A checklist helps you remember essentials like winterizing pipes, checking roofing, and preparing HVAC systems so your home stays in top shape all year.
