THIS WEEK ➡️ https://go.iu.edu/853k 🗓️Thursday, May 2 | ⏲ 12:00 - 1:15 pm ET Join us to hear from Kelly Shue (Yale School of Management) as she speaks on "𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔": What challenges do boards face when trying to attract, retain, and promote top managerial talent? Why are fewer women promoted to senior positions than men? And why are some bosses so incompetent? This session will discuss research on the Peter Principle, which says that hierarchical organizations suffer because effective workers are promoted until they reach their “level of incompetence.” We will also discuss how forecasts of a worker’s management potential can help resolve the Peter Principle problem while also creating the unintended consequence of holding women back from management positions. 🎙️Moderator: Mila Getmansky Sherman (Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst) 🤝Partners: European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) & The Ostrom Workshop

The number of ESG studies, by both academics and practitioners, has soared. Some of these studies have been published in top academic journals and have had substantial real-world impact, yet contain important flaws. Tomorrow (Thursday, April 4, 9am ET) I'll give a talk on "Can We Trust ESG Research" to outline the main ways in which the conclusions drawn by researchers may not fully align with the analysis. For practitioners, it will highlight simple questions that we can ask ourselves to assess how much we can trust a study. For academics, it will suggest best practices in both the execution and communication of ESG research. Register at https://go.iu.edu/6yEv; hosted by Institute for Corporate Governance in partnership with The Ostrom Workshop and European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI).
