Our team loves the work we do with the diverse and incredible international student population at Kellogg. Like many Kellogg students, international students give back to the community by taking on club leadership roles in their second year. With this post, we're excited to feature two of these #KelloggLeader(s), Yijun(Juno) Gu and Mengjie(Karl) Wang, co-presidents of the Greater China Club (GCC)---along with a few of their favorite Kellogg photos. Tell us about where you’re from and what made you choose Kellogg. Juno: I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I chose Kellogg for its collaborative culture, world-class academics, and strong global presence. Karl: Like Juno, I was born and raised in Shanghai, China, and we both worked for Estée Lauder Companies there. As a marketer, choosing Kellogg was a clear decision for me because of its unparalleled reputation in marketing. What’s been the most interesting thing you’ve learned so far? Juno: Before coming to the U.S., I'd often heard the country referred to as a "melting pot”, where different cultures merge to create something new. But after a year here, I learned a new phrase that I like better: "salad bowl." It means you blend into the culture while still keeping your unique identity. Each ingredient brings its own flavor to the mix, making it diverse, vibrant, and, honestly, pretty delicious! Karl: The art of networking. In Asian cultures, networking is less emphasized, so I hadn't practiced it much before coming here. Initially, it felt daunting as an international student, but I've come to understand that networking is a skill that can be honed over time. With the right approach, it becomes a powerful tool to discover opportunities, connect people, and create mutually beneficial outcomes. What is one thing you’d like everyone to know about China or the GCC? Juno: One thing everyone should know about China is its incredible diversity. From its landscapes and dialects to its food and traditions, China will surprise you with its variety. Whether you’re exploring world-class cities, visiting ancient cultural landmarks, or tasting local cuisines, you’ll find warm welcomes and like-minded friends along the way. Karl:  Similar to Juno, I'd say that traveling to China will enable you to explore rich cultural heritage and dynamic modernity, far beyond what headlines suggest. I will lead 66 Kellogg MBA to visit Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai in 2025 spring break. It’s time to see it with our own eyes! What are your hopes for the future? Juno: Contribute to efforts to make the world more equitable and inclusive. Karl: I hope I will enjoy my last year at Kellogg and, maybe one day, be invited back to Kellogg as guest speaker. Thank you to Juno and Karl! We look forward to featuring more of our international club leaders in the future!

  • This week, we welcomed 38 fall exchange students from 16 of our partner schools from all around the globe! Exchange students are such a special and integral part to the Kellogg experience; not only do our exchange students gain valuable insights into American MBA culture and learn from our incredible faculty, but our Kellogg students get to learn from our exchange students' varied backgrounds, perspectives, and experience. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest cohort of exchange students! We hope the next ten weeks don't fly by too fast!

  • The Kellogg Global Experience team was thrilled to launch our first annual Global Faire yesterday in White Auditorium! 🥳 Over 500 students joined us and learned more about Kellogg's global program offerings, and connected with faculty and past global program participants. There was food, drinks, and so much joy around the Hub! It was clear to see how engaged and excited Kellogg students are about engaging globally. We would love to give a HUGE shoutout to our regional club leaders, GIM ambassadors, and colleagues who were able to volunteer their time to make this event such a success. We couldn't have done it without you!

1 week. 35 trips. Over 30 countries. Nearly 1000 participants. For the 2024 Kellogg Worldwide Exploration Student Trips (KWEST) program, nearly 180 rising second-year students welcomed over 800 incoming fulltime MBA students and their significant others to the Kellogg community through global excursions. From mountain flights in Nepal, to boat cruises in Vietnam, and game drives in Tanzania, KWESTees cultivated meaningful bonds while exploring new locations to kick off their business school journeys. In preparation for KWEST, our trip leaders received over 6 months of training on community building, risk management, accessibility, and budget management to make KWEST safe and enjoyable for incoming students. We would like to thank our trip leaders and the many other individuals, teams, and departments that made KWEST 2024 so special: Jess Linke, Lauren Wilson, the KWEST Executive Board, Austral Education Group, Bschool Travel, Kuoni Tumlare, Quest Excursions, TourHero, WorldStrides, Kellogg AdTech Team, Kellogg Admissions Team, the Office of Global Safety and Security, NU Health Promotion and Wellness (HPaW), NU Counseling and Psychological Services, and more! Have you attended KWEST? If so, let us know the year and location of your trip! 🌍💜

  • Yesterday, our Global Experience team had an exciting change of scenery! The team spent the day in downtown Chicago supporting our Master in Management (MiM) students as part of their orientation before they begin their ten-month program. Our office spent the day working on cross cultural connections, helping students to think critically about how culture defines thoughts, actions, and values and how their own culture, experiences, and perspectives will have an impact on their engagement with their Kellogg peers. A huge thank-you to Amanda Stasinski and Diona Geci for inviting us to their homebase downtown and for giving us an opportunity to engage more with their students. We are looking forward to our continued collaboration with MiM students!

  • Culture Camp 2024 was another resounding success! 🏕 In one of our favorite weekends of the year, our Global Co-curricular team led 40 incoming 2Y and MBAi students hailing from nearly 20 countries to Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, WI to engage in cross-cultural workshops and discussions. Throughout the weekend, we heard from Kellogg staff and current/former campers alike who illuminated the importance of being a culturally competent leader in business. We also had a lot of fun with various cultural activities, such as Bangladeshi dance, Thai krathong making, and American campfire stories with s’mores, led by our very own campers. Thank you for sharing a part of your culture with us! Lastly, we couldn’t have put together such an impactful program without the help of our camp staffers, guest speakers, and camp alumni panelists. We appreciate your passion and support of the Culture Camp program. 💜 Jess Linke, Lauren Wilson, Jasmine Guadarrama, Sandrine Onyeise, Amy Gingold, Betsi Burns, Christopher Marosi, PhD, Skyler Kolli, Simin Jabbaran, and Ray (Hrachya) Davtyan #CultureCamp

  • Last Wednesday marked the final day of our international student orientation, ACE 🎊! At ACE, students learn about American culture and the MBA classroom, practice case work and their elevator pitch, all while building their network and lifelong Kellogg friendships. Of course, an introduction to American life wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play and a local bowling alley for some friendly competition. We are so incredibly proud of all of our ACE students – they spent an intense 2.5 weeks sharing, learning, and growing with one another and we can’t wait to see where their next chapter at Kellogg and beyond will take them! ACE wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated faculty and staff who share our passion for supporting international students, a big thank you from all of us at Kellogg Global Experience 💌 : Dr. Paul L. Corona, Achal Bassamboo, Kevin McTigue, Sébastien Martin, Michael Foley, David Besanko, Tamra Wysocki-Niimi, Stephanie Cisneros, Rachel Giedris, Jess Linke, Annie Reagan, Jasmine Guadarrama, Lauren Wilson, Liz A.
