To inspire and empower people with spinal cord injuries to lead active and engaged lives.
About us
The Kelly Brush Foundation inspires and empowers people with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) to lead active and engaged lives. For those who have experienced a spinal cord injury, being active can feel out of reach. The obstacles are real: physical, financial, and even the belief it is possible. The Kelly Brush Foundation (KBF) is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for those who have experienced a spinal cord injury. We offer the inspiration to believe and the grants to enable anyone to buy the equipment they need to get out and go. But the KBF funds more than just recreation, because when you’re out there on the hill, road or trail, as your heart rate rises and you feel the wind on your face, disability fades away. An active lifestyle forges connections with others — both new friends and old, in and out of a chair. The KBF was founded by Kelly and her family after Kelly was injured in 2006 at an NCAA alpine ski race. Since our founding, we’ve been committed to ski racing safety and will continue to advocate and provide resources so that every ski racer is training and competing on the safest possible venues.

What are you doing to #HaveADay today? The Craig Hospital Adolescent Program teamed up with the Kelly Brush Foundation this week for a girls-only trip of adventure at the National Ability Center in Park City, Utah! The group is exploring experiences like traveling, wake surfing, swimming, mountain biking, white water rafting and more with support from Craig recreational therapists and invaluable mentorship from KBF Founder Kelly Brush. #CraigGrad Shelby shared, “I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.” Trips like these aim to foster independence for adolescents with spinal cord injury, many of whom haven't spent much time away on their own since their injury, and help participants find community and connection.

We recently sponsored a group of participants for a fun weekend of extreme adaptive cycling in Killington, Vt. — full of downhill rides, top speeds, and twists, turns and jumps over mountainous terrain. The riders enjoyed an intense trail ride at Gifford Woods State Park, with more than 800 feet of climbing elevation. Not only did they push their limits, but their feedback will be used to decide if the trail will officially be sanctioned as an adaptive mountain biking trail. Special thanks to our Adaptive Sports and Therapeutic Recreation teams and our organizing partners, the Kelly Brush Foundation and Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports!
