About us
Kendall Square Association enables the future by connecting the people changing the world. In the fall of 2008, a group of Cambridge leaders realized that Kendall had rapidly evolved into something extraordinary and that it was important to think about its future in a more deliberate way. Located next to MIT and surrounded by life sciences and information technology companies, as well as many research institutions, Kendall was already an epicenter for innovation. What was also needed was a greater ability for people to connect and exchange ideas and the creation of equally vibrant and compelling activity at the street level in Kendall. The KSA was launched at a meeting for leaders in the Kendall community to discuss this innovation ecosystem’s unique characteristics. More than 100 people offered ideas about how to improve, promote, and protect Kendall Square. That input resulted in the establishment of the KSA, which had its first Annual Meeting in March 2009. The mission has always been to build partnerships, host events, advocate for public policy issues, and tell Kendall’s story of transformation from an industrial center to a global innovation hub.

Innovation Without Borders, our final social impact event of 2024 LabCentral, was both timely and important. Here’s a glimpse of what I took away from the inspiring conversation. But first a huge thank you to our incredible panelists: Julien L. Pham, MD, MPH, Heike Keilhack, Avak Kahvejian, Jonathan Thon, Ph.D., and Noor Jailkhani for such a thought-provoking and impactful dialogue. Thank you to our sponsors Bayer and Revvity for their commitment to social impact! The journey of immigrant innovators is one of extraordinary resilience and groundbreaking impact. Immigrants have long been at the forefront of innovation, bringing fresh perspectives, a beginners mindset, unique experiences, a third culture approach and an indomitable spirit to the world of science, technology, and entrepreneurship. Their paths are often filled with uncertainty, but it is their ability to adapt, persevere, and envision new possibilities that propels them to success. For many immigrant innovators, the journey begins with leaving behind the familiar—family, culture, and language—to embrace the unknown. They bring with them not only the desire for a better life but also ideas and ambitions that can reshape entire industries. Along the way, they navigate complex systems, face societal barriers, and, at times, overcome a sense of not belonging. Yet, if you’ve come this far, it’s because you are meant to be here. Every challenge you’ve faced has strengthened your resolve. Each step forward represents a triumph. From some of the world’s most successful tech founders to pioneering scientists and social entrepreneurs, immigrant innovators have redefined what’s possible by leveraging their diverse backgrounds to create lasting change. With a commitment to paying it forward which truly embodies the spirit of giving back and lifting others as they advance in their journeys. Their journey is marked by collaboration, creativity, a focus on community and a refusal to accept limits. They build bridges between cultures, foster inclusive environments, and use their talents to solve problems that benefit us all. If you are an immigrant innovator, know that you belong not just in this space but in leading it. Your story matters, your contributions are essential, and your journey is far from over. Your presence here today is a testament to your strength, vision, and potential. Keep moving forward, because the world needs your ideas, your leadership, and your unique perspective. If you’ve gotten this far, it's not by accident—it's because you were meant to be here. #SocialImpact #DiversePerspectives #Belonging #Innovation #Community #ThirdCulture 3CC | Third Culture Capital
