As part of #DiabetesAwarenessMonth, we are shining light on the impact of the disease on the lives of Kentuckians. Diabetes is a complex, chronic disease that affects the body in numerous ways and it has taken a toll on the public's health. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are devices that monitor blood sugar without a finger stick. Studies have shown better management of diabetes in people with low blood sugar and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can help with overall health including heart, nerve, vision, and mental health. Kentucky Medicaid is working on expanding coverage of CGMs to Medicaid members diagnosed with diabetes, gestational diabetes, and Hypoglycemia 2 and 3. Speak with your provider to see if you're eligible for a CGM! For more information on CGMs and diabetes, please click here: https://buff.ly/3NLHXfo.

About us
Kentucky Medicaid is a state and federal program authorized by Title XIX of the Social Security Act to provide healthcare for eligible, low-income populations. These populations include children, low-income families, pregnant women, the aged, and the disabled. Eligibility for these groups is determined by a number of factors, including family size, income, and the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Eligibility for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and the aged, blind, or disabled, are based on additional requirements such as income and resource limits. Last week, our DMS NEXT participants (referred to as our Stars) attended the fifth NEXT session at the Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife Resources Salato Wildlife Center in Frankfort! Our Stars learned more about Kentucky Medicaid's Division for Quality and Population Health, accompanied by Division Director Angie Parker (second picture, right), Quality Branch Manager Troy Sutherland (second picture, left), and Population Health Manager Leitha Harris (third picture, right). Fun fact: Leitha is also one of our wonderful ten Stars! Along with networking, our Stars discovered their communication style and how to understand their style to improve collaboration across the board. We are so excited to see where our Stars will go to next!
