  • When a young person decides to take responsibility for their education, it’s an amazing thing to watch. That’s what happened to a former client of ours, Liam*. Liam was struggling in school when we met him. At home, Liam had an unhealthy relationship with his father, which contributed to his anxiety. He found it hard to focus in school and rein in his impulsive behaviors. Liam fell behind in his classes and was facing having to repeat his senior year of high school. Our community-based staff visited him at school regularly to encourage him. Liam learned coping skills for his anxiety and started to realize just how much he wanted to be an independent adult. “It was like a switch flipped,” his case manager Kayla says. With just a few months left before graduation, Liam asked Kayla to help him graduate on time. She rallied his school counselor and teachers around him, giving Liam extra encouragement. Kayla made sure Liam had quiet uninterrupted space to do his work. Watching Liam walk across the stage was hugely fulfilling. “It was a really great accomplishment for him to graduate high school,” Kayla says. Now, Liam has many goals for his future and is looking into learning a trade. Liam is just one of many youth who you are helping! When you support KyUMH, you are opening doors to career opportunities, new experiences, and higher self-esteem for Kentucky youth. Help open a door for children like Liam. • Our Nicholasville campus is home to Ashgrove Academy, an official Jessamine county school. A resident at KyUMH receives one-on-one support from our staff and teachers. It’s a special opportunity for our youth to catch up in school, and sometimes even graduate high school early! For every resident who graduates high school, we hold a special graduation ceremony. The dining hall is decorated, the graduate walks out in a cap and gown to “Pomp and Circumstance,” and our staff and teachers give them words of encouragement. It’s an amazing moment to celebrate the hard work and perseverance of our resident. Seeing the pride and joy on our residents’ face is just priceless. They realize they are capable, loved, and worthy of success! When you support KyUMH, you are opening doors to career opportunities, new experiences, and higher self-esteem for Kentucky youth. A gift today makes sure our youth have the unique care they need to earn their diploma. Help open a door for a child today. • There is nothing better than watching one of our youth graduate high school. For many of them, it’s a goal they didn’t think was possible. When you’ve moved homes 10, 15, or 20 times by the time you’re a teenager, it can be hard to imagine you could ever catch up in school, let alone graduate. A great education puts youth on a path to success. A high school diploma opens doors to so many things: job opportunities, higher education, new experiences, building relationships, and higher self-esteem. Help open a door for a child today.
