UC Berkeley SkyDeck 17', Kfobix's mission is to make power grids and green energy production facilities sustainable.

About us

At Kfobix, our mission is to revolutionize the green energy landscape, making it more efficient and sustainable. In a world increasingly impacted by climate change, our mission is critical: to facilitate a seamless transition to renewable energy sources. We specialize in creating cutting-edge superhydrophobic coatings that prevent ice formation on electrical transmission lines and wind turbines. This not only enhances the reliability of green energy infrastructure but also ensures uninterrupted energy production and transmission. Our innovation extends to the solar energy sector, where we are pioneering anti-dirt coatings. These coatings are designed to maintain the cleanliness of solar panels, thereby maximizing their efficiency and output. Our products represent a leap forward in nanotechnology, offering practical solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in the renewable energy sector. At Kfobix, we are driven by the belief that the future of energy can be cleaner, more reliable, and utterly sustainable. Our journey is marked by relentless research and development, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. By joining forces with us, you become part of a movement that is not just preparing for a sustainable future but actively building it, today. Let’s empower the world together with cleaner, more efficient energy solutions.

Electrical Insulation On Power Lines to Prevent Forest Fires! What are your thoughts on the cause of the wildfire in Los Angeles, California? There is substantial evidence suggesting that the fire was triggered by power transmission lines that were toppled and carried by storm winds, igniting Pinus canariensis trees, which are highly flammable. In the Pacific Palisades area, we estimate that the length of power lines capable of causing a wildfire of this scale is around 400 km. One possible solution could be applying a suitable coating to power lines, particularly those near forested areas, to electrically insulate them in case they are knocked down or carried by strong winds. Of course, this insulation would not involve conventional materials like silicone or thermoplastics, which are impractical for such an application. At KFOBIX, we have developed an advanced nanotechnology-based coating that provides electrical insulation while being extremely lightweight, low-cost and highly durable (4-5 years lifespan). This coating can be applied to power lines using the autonomous robots we have already developed—more details on this application method are available on our website. We have already conducted tests on this coating, and the results show that it can provide electrical insulation up to 17.9 kV. I will share these test results in the next post.

The nanotechnology product KFOBIX is actively developing, as mentioned in my previous post, now provides electrical insulation up to 17.9 kV, and we continue to enhance its capabilities. In addition to our patented superhydrophobic anti-icing coating, we believe this new product will add significant value both to our company and to the world. In the California Los Angeles wildfires, we previously estimated that the length of power lines near forested areas that could potentially cause fires is approximately 400 km. The estimated cost of the California wildfire disaster is around $57 billion. By coating power lines along this length, a strong protective measure could be implemented to prevent such catastrophic events. As mentioned earlier, the application of this coating will be carried out using the autonomous robotic systems we have already developed.

Together with Lineer coating robots, we have started coating operations of our KFOBIX product on Pigeon 3.0 power lines within Meram MEDAS Electricity Distribution Company. As our operations increase, power outages and pole falls due to ice will become a very old problem observed in power lines worldwide.

This robot, along with the video, is the tangible result of the dedicated and disciplined work of us, two mechanical engineers, me and Buğra Sökün . All systems, including design, production processes, and electronic systems, were developed entirely by us. We built this system using various disciplines, such as fluid mechanics, machine theory, heat transfer, system dynamics, and control, allowing the KFOBIX coating to be autonomously applied over thousands of kilometers of power lines. Seeing us develop such technologies makes me happy, though it’s not entirely satisfying. We will continue to advance these systems and take them to electric distribution companies worldwide. Most importantly, the experience we've gained from this R&D' s will be directly applied to future space projects. It’s also exciting that these robots will be used in field tests with our current customers, MERAM EDAŞ Electricity Distribution and Dicle Elektrik Electricity Distribution companies.
