Monday memories! At the end of each youth workshop we have students create projects that showcase what and why they are leaving SEL and other life skills. This summer the Student Leaders from New Jersey City University worked for 4 weeks with the vibrant students of Roselle Public Schools on self regulation, movement, making positive decisions, team building and empathy skills that culminate in a school wide gratitude presentation! Working this week in Santa Ana, CA with expanded learning programs at Santa Ana Unified School District we facilitated THREE popular topics: 6 Impactful Facilitator Tips for Classroom Management, 9 Smooth Sailing Ways to Build Relationships w/ Youth and an adult learning session for Growth & Fixed Mindset. The sessions were fast and furious, and participants were engaged! We loved meeting this group of awesome professionals who serve youth in the hours of 3pm-6pm. These hours are critical, not only do staff keep kids safe but they also present exciting and thoughtful ways of learning! Thank you for the opportunity to serve! Meet Viviana! With over 20 years in youth and disability inclusion, Viviana empowers individuals and communities through advocacy, education, and best practices. She has worked in various roles, from afterschool programs to Military Child and Youth Programs in Spain and Germany. Viviana has developed curriculum, led strategic groups, and trained youth professionals in English and Spanish. She is passionate about diversity, equity, and mental health wellness, especially within the Spanish-speaking community. Viviana holds a B.S. in Human Services from Springfield College. We recently launched a brand new session called "I Spy the Signs: Mental Health vs. Emotional Distress." According to a 2023 Pew Research poll, nearly 9 out of 10 young people aged 14 to 25 regularly face mental health challenges. The reasons behind the high rates of sadness and depression in teenagers are complex and multifaceted, and distinguishing between mental health issues and typical hormonal emotions can be challenging. In our new session, we delve into strategies for identifying teenagers who may be struggling with their mental health, how to ask appropriate questions, and unravel the complexities of the modern-day mental health crisis.
