The U.S. Department of Education has been on the verge of being abolished since President Andrew Johnson signed legislation to create the first federal DOE in the 1860s. That’s right, this body has existed in some form well before the late 1970s. We might call it building background knowledge in ELA: I believe the best thing one can do at the moment is to review the history of the department. Here’s a starting point.

This, and you're in even more trouble if you don't understand learning is a social process. Young people are learning just as much about themselves as developing humans as they are also gaining literacy and numeracy skills.
If you are deploying a learning solution in K-12 education and don’t appreciate how challenging the teaching profession is, you are in trouble. Most effective, veteran teachers are skeptical about the next new thing in K-12 education. This is a logical and protective stance to hold because they have been inundated with solutions and mandates that compromise their ability to lead a quality learning experience and ultimately lead to burnout. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t scale new ideas. It means that we need to think about the implementation journey through the lived experiences of educators and respect the barriers they face. Otherwise, your product will be added to the incredibly long list of learning solutions that sound great in theory and have no shot at scaled implementation in practice.
