A children's advocacy center where hope and healing begins.

About us

Kids FIRST is Lane County’s Children’s Advocacy Center. We provide intervention and advocacy for children who are victims of, or witnesses to, crime. Kids FIRST is uniquely poised to provide intervention services at a most critical time-- right after a child’s initial disclosure of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and/or witness to violence. The path to healing begins at Kids FIRST. Our in-house services include forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, advocacy, therapy and grand jury. We do this all under one roof so that a child does not experience further trauma by visits to the hospital, child welfare offices, police stations, court rooms and beyond.

We are back with MDT* Highlights! This month we recognize an amazing team member, Leeanna Barton. ⭐ Leeanna Barton ⭐ Investigator III ☀ TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR WORK I’m an investigator with OTIS (Office of Training, Investigations and Safety with DHS). I’ve been in this role for about 3.5 years and really enjoy it. I’m on our south team, which means I can be assigned a report anywhere south of Salem, but I mainly cover Lane County. Our team conducts various abuse investigations by third party individuals, schools, daycares, and other child caring agencies. ☀ What is your favorite part about working with Kids FIRST? I enjoy working with Kids FIRST for so many reasons! The genuine care and support they provide to children and families is unmatched. ☀ What is your favorite story/experience with KF? Not a specific experience, but there’s been so many times where kids say the funniest things that make me laugh out loud. ☀ What is something most people might not know about you or a fun fact? I listen to mostly pop-punk and metal music and love going to concerts. I always have tickets for some upcoming concert and could talk with someone about music for hours. I could also talk about books for hours and am a huge reader. ☀ What is your favorite sport/activity to do? I’ve never been athletic and I’m one of the most uncoordinated people you’ll meet, but I love a group workout class! I’ve been a member at Burn Boot Camp for a while and can’t say enough good things about it. I encourage anyone who’s been interested in trying it out to give it a try! ☀ What did you want to be when you were younger? And why? I was totally set on being a popstar, but turns out I’m better suited for karaoke. -- *What is the MDT? Kids FIRST chairs the Lane County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Intervention Team (MDT), which provides policy and case review. The team is made up of law enforcement, medical, child protection, school, legal and social service professionals. The purpose of this team is to ensure that no child slips between the cracks of an overburdened system.
