Happy #SELSunday!! In today's episode, we're sharing 5 coping strategies that children can use when managing big emotions! 1️⃣Deep Breathing: Teach the child to calm down by slowly inhaling for four counts, holding for four, and exhaling for four. This helps reduce stress and anxiety. 2️⃣Journaling: Encourage the child to write or draw their feelings in a journal. This helps them process emotions and gain perspective. 3️⃣Taking Breaks: Teach the child to step away from stressful situations, like going for a walk or playing a game, to reset and refocus. 4️⃣Positive Self-Talk: Demonstrate how to replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations, like saying, “I can handle this” when feeling overwhelmed. 5️⃣Mindfulness: Practice mindful moments by focusing on their senses, like feeling the texture of a toy or listening to calming sounds, to stay grounded in the present. You can find these and other helpful strategies in our debut book, 'Aiden Gets Angry'. This book highlights the various ways the main character, Aiden, learns to navigate his feelings of anger.
