Earlier this month, the Smoky Falls Project team completed the final mass concrete pour ahead of schedule – signaling the near completion of the 100-year-old spillway refurbishment. Since the start of the project in 2022, crews have poured more than 7,850 cubic meters of concrete. This milestone means in the coming weeks, the project team can proceed with the final water-up operations of the remaining three bays, paving the way for the completion of the west sluiceway refurbishment. The focus of this project is to rehabilitate and strengthen the spillway and sluiceway structures at Ontario Power Generation’s Smoky Falls Generating Station, located along the Lower Mattagami River. Our scope of work includes refurbishing two sluiceway gates and permanently closing unused sluiceway and spillway bays with permanent concrete to follow dam safety requirements and give the dam a longer life span.

Step inside the recently unveiled 42,000-square-foot Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion, the newest addition to the Joslyn Art Museum. Congratulations to our team, our client and all the project partners who helped bring this vision to life and further enrich Omaha’s cultural scene. Best of all, the museum is free to the public, offering families a chance to explore this stunning new space.

The work we do in our communities extends beyond the project site. While working on the Wildfire Hardening Project in Weed, California, 1884 Line Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Transmission Services Inc., learned of the city’s efforts to raise funds for a new water truck, crucial for this wildfire-prone area. Understanding the importance, the project team donated a state-of-the-art Multiquip Water Buffalo – a modern water trailer designed to enhance wildfire control capabilities significantly and aid firefighting efforts. Mike Kiggins, President of Kiewit Transmission Services Inc., emphasized the importance of this donation, especially for a community that welcomed them during project operations. “Building work within a community goes beyond the physical structures; it’s about fostering relationships and providing support. By becoming an integral part of the community, we can ensure our efforts truly benefit and uplift those we serve. Donating a state-of-the-art Multiquip Water Buffalo to a high-risk town is crucial for enhancing wildfire control capabilities, and it will significantly aid firefighting efforts, providing essential support to protect lives and properties." Ottawa’s O-Train West Extension has welcomed its first light-rail vehicle to the Light Maintenance and Storage Facility. Under construction since 2019, this facility marks the end of the new alignment and showcases the significant progress being made on Ottawa’s largest infrastructure project. The light-rail vehicle arrived by truck to the facility, where it was unloaded, unwrapped and coupled. Congratulations to the Kiewit Eurovia Vinci team on reaching this exciting milestone!

Meet Josie Kresak. She's an environmental engineer working on one of our transportation projects. We had the chance to hang out with her in Colorado and ask some fun questions to get to know her better – like what's her go-to snack, what her favorite equipment is on-site and why she prioritizes safety in her work.

Here's a look inside one of our newly renovated office spaces in La Vista, Nebraska, for our technology and data services employees. This 115,294-square-foot building features a new fitness center, a renovated cafeteria, a Starbucks, an outdoor basketball court and two outdoor pickleball courts. It is adjacent to a lake with a walking path around it. Nearly 500 employees are now working in this space. Our building group is currently working on the second building on the La Vista campus, and staff will begin relocating to the space later this month. Improvements are being done in two phases. Once phase 1 is complete, the building will have space for 420 staff and will feature a renovated café. We’ve designed these spaces for our employees and evolving business needs, and we can’t wait to see how they inspire collaboration and innovation!
