🌟 Celebrating Excellence in Teaching at Killeen ISD! 🌟 We are thrilled to recognize the outstanding achievements of our educators during the Region 12 Teacher of the Year Reception held at the ESC Service Center in Waco. Our Secondary Teacher of the Year, Spencer Wiley, the head choir director at Harker Heights High School, was in attendance to celebrate this prestigious honor. Spencer’s dedication to his students and passion for music education has fostered a thriving choir program, leading to remarkable achievements such as performing at the Texas Music Educators Association conference for the first time in 25 years! His philosophy of building lifelong lovers of music resonates in every lesson, inspiring students to explore their musical talents. Although our Elementary Teacher of the Year, Keisha Lovell, was unable to attend, Region 12 ensured she felt celebrated! Their Field Service Agent delivered her regional nominee sign and special goodies to the KISD Admin Building. Keisha's journey from a military spouse to an award-winning educator showcases her commitment to her students at Maude Moore Wood Elementary. Her belief in high expectations and strong relationships empowers her second-graders to excel academically and personally. Both Spencer and Keisha began their journey as campus teachers of the year, competing amongst their colleagues. They both exemplify the power of excellence in education in Killeen ISD and the impact of dedicated teachers on their students’ lives. Congratulations to both Spencer and Keisha! Boots on the Ground Leadership: Advocating for Our KISD Kids — In Killeen ISD, we believe in putting action behind our words, and our incredible leaders have done just that. Killeen ISD celebrates its commitment to military-connected students as 31 campuses earn the prestigious Purple Star Designation from the Texas Education Agency.

Proud History Meets Promising Future -- From the dust-blown days of horse-drawn carriages to a growing agricultural economy and railroad stop to a training ground for America’s military cavalry forces, Killeen ISD's history reaches back to a tough, hard-working past. Those early tales, recalled from sepia toned photo prints, merged into a city that connected to the Army’s home to its heavy artillery force that helped bring the world to Central Texas. The Killeen ISD Communications and Marketing department produced a video over the summer that tells through archived photos this area’s proud history, moving through the days of integration and growth of Fort Cavazos to today.
