Paint the Town Pink - Manh Choh Edition Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time for us to come together and make a difference, and on the other end of the road in Tok, we did just that! Setting up at one of the Kiewit shops, our team came out in full force, decked out in pink high-vis gear and pink beanies—not only for safety but to stand out in support of breast cancer awareness. Over food from Arctic Catering, we had meaningful conversations about the importance of breast cancer screening for both men and women, emphasizing that early detection saves lives. We also hung banners downtown with key statistics to keep awareness top of mind and partnered with local coffee shops to encourage people to schedule their mammograms and connect them to local resources. And to make sure everyone has access to these vital screenings, we collaborated with the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska and Beacon Occupational Health and Safety Services to bring the BCDC mobile mammogram unit to rural areas like Tok and Delta Junction. Every Alaskan deserves the chance to prioritize their health, and we’re proud to be part of that effort!

Paint the Town Pink - Fort Knox Edition October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and at Kinross Alaska, we’re committed to supporting the fight against breast cancer across our communities. This year, we “Painted the Town Pink” in Fairbanks and Tok with several initiatives designed to raise awareness and provide resources to those who need them most. Our annual Pink Blast returned at Fort Knox, where employees and their family members impacted by breast cancer joined us. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious brunch catered by Beyond Birch Co. , a local business owned by a current breast cancer fighter. You might have noticed that downtown is a little pinker, with street lights displaying banners featuring breast cancer statistics to keep the conversation going. We also customized a few of our light-duty trucks that you’ll see driving around town! Through partnerships with local coffee shops, we promoted Mammogram Day, ensuring that educational resources were within reach. And, as a heartfelt thank you, we delivered a special lunch to our friends at the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) to recognize their tireless work in early cancer detection and community outreach. Together, we’re creating change, one small act at a time. Let’s continue to raise awareness and support each other in this important cause.

Today, Kinross Alaska joins communities across the nation in celebrating the rich heritage of American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native peoples, including our partners at the Native Village of Tetlin. Their commitment to cultural and environmental values inspires us every day. To ensure the continued impact of these values into the future, we are proud to support UAF’s Troth Yeddha Indigenous Studies Center, which will serve as a central Alaska Native gathering place in higher education and have also established the Kinross Future Leaders Scholarship for students who are historically underrepresented in the resource development industry. #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Today, our team recognized the drivers and mechanics from Black Gold Transport for their unwavering commitment to safety and excellence. Their safety protocols include a comprehensive tracking system that assesses drivers on speed management, lane control, attentiveness, and more. Based on this criteria BGT drivers' impressive cumulative safety score is 99/100. Furthermore, top-performing drivers are eligible for monthly bonuses, an incentive frequently earned by multiple drivers. #puttingpeoplefirst

I’ve always had an interest in the environment. For generations, my family has been in forest management in the private sector and working for the state managing the land. That’s always been my passion, the belief taught through generations of my family that we’re stewards of the land and protecting it and getting it back to the way it was. In my career now, land restoration is one of my department’s focuses. The fun thing is every day is different. Sometimes I’m out in the field. We’re doing a bee initiative to protect wildflower habitat. We’re increasing wetlands. We’re always monitoring local water quality. We do extra sampling above what’s required by the state and EPA. And sometimes I’m in the office working with our teams. We run extra tabletop exercises for emergency response and make forward-looking plans for land reclamation. So what I do at work and what I’ve always learned from my mother and father and grandparents is what I teach my three girls. I’m a father now, so I’m passing those values down to my children, that we are stewards of the land. Our family spends at least half the year traveling the state to get outdoors, from hunting to snowmachining. We try to live a subsistence lifestyle, so my children are learning our family’s values themselves, learning it firsthand through experience out there in Alaska. My name is Brent. I am a hunter. I am a fisherman. I am a girl dad. I am an environmentalist. I am mining.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the University of Alaska Fairbanks 2024 Blue & Gold Celebration such a success! Overall, the event raised $163,000 for student scholarships across campus! We are honored to have contributed to this incredible event, and moved that a local community member donated $29,000 to the Kinross Future Leaders Scholarship to help first generation students find success at UAF. By supporting local education, we are opening doors, and taking down barriers for students in our community. We look forward to seeing the amazing opportunities this will create for our future leaders. Can’t wait for next year’s celebration! Pc: University of Alaska Fairbanks
