And just like that, it is time to wave goodbye to our Summer 2024 Project Engineer interns! This summer we had our most interns to date, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments and contributions! Our interns worked on a variety of projects throughout the state gaining meaningful, hands-on experience. To close out their experience, they celebrated by meeting at our headquarters for their Intern Retreat. A highlight of this was taking a trip out to Mt. Bachelor to zipline (and experience the zipline towers that KNCC built just a few summers ago!). We had a wonderful time celebrating the grand opening of Dundee Elementary School at the project’s ribbon cutting ceremony! One of our favorite parts of every project is witnessing the community’s first glimpse inside their completed space, and the Dundee grand opening certainly did not disappoint. Crowds of students, parents, teachers, and community members gathered to commemorate and tour the new building just days before school started. Located in Joseph, this clinic facility provides the community with medical care and behavior health to the community. The facility consists of a procedure room and 5 exam rooms. There is also a public education room with a teaching kitchen and meeting space. We’re excited and proud to announce that Project Manager Mark Pedersen, LEED AP, was chosen to be a member of the Bend Chamber’s Leadership of Bend Class of 2025.   This annual program is centered around providing education, connection, and development of leaders throughout Central Oregon who all share the common goal of growing the future of Central Oregon’s community.   “I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to participate in Leadership Bend. Happy Feature Friday! Today we’re highlighting Sherwood Heights Elementary School. KNCC was the CM/GC partner for both prototypical buildings, Sherwood Heights and Washington Elementary schools, for Pendleton School District. Completed in 2016, the 63,000 sf school building was one of the very first projects KNCC built after establishing a regional office in Pendleton. Both projects were replacement schools and included demolition of the existing buildings to make way for the new schools comprised of learning and collaboration areas, classrooms, expansive gymnasiums, spacious playgrounds, and more. We sincerely enjoyed building these new schools for the Pendleton community. We are thrilled to say that this summer marks 10 years since the establishment of our regional office in Pendleton, Oregon!   Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company’s journey in Pendleton began in 2014 upon award of the CM/GC contract for Pendleton School District’s Bond projects. While KNCC had previously done work in Eastern Oregon, including for the neighboring Helix School District the year prior, it wasn't until 2014 that a small group made the official move to Pendleton, putting permanent boots on the ground and establishing an official presence in Umatilla County.   KNCC’s first office in Pendleton began as two job trailers located on the vacant lot behind the old Pendleton School District administrative office building (coincidentally, just a few blocks from where our current office now sits!). From the two trailers, the team commenced work throughout the district, including security upgrades and the demolition of the existing Washington and Sherwood Heights Elementary Schools to make way for the construction of two replacement elementary schools.   Fast forward to 2024, and after the success of countless projects throughout the region from Goldendale, Washington to Joseph, Oregon and all the wonderful communities in between, what started off as a small office comprised of job trailers and a handful of dedicated team members is now a prominent regional office working in over a dozen counties.   This would not be possible without the incredible hard work, dedication, and commitment of all our KNCC team members, including those that formed the office and those that make the Pendleton office what it is today. We also owe a deep gratitude to our amazing project owners, architects, and trade partners along the way who have worked together with us to build meaningful spaces for their communities.
