About us

The name of this organization shall be Koinè International (generally referred to as “KI”). The word “Koinè” (pronounced \kȯi-ˈnā\) comes from the Ancient Greek “Κοινὴ” and defines the common language used by Alexander the Great during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. He used this dialect in order to unify the countless dominions under his authority, merging together cultures and languages, and creating the most multi-ethnic empire that the Old World had ever seen. The purpose of Koinè International (KI) shall be to provide a safe haven for cultural and social activities that can benefit Illinois College's international community and to share a common space where international and foreign exchange students can gather. KI will promote awareness and support integration of members within the campus community while maintaining their cultural identities, as well as sustaining diversity and cultural exchange. KI will also provide opportunities for international students to be a part of and get assistance from Illinois College.
