Although New York doesn’t yet have a comprehensive state privacy law, the NY Attorney General has clarified that certain online data collection practices may violate the state’s consumer protection law. Launched this summer, the new Business Guide to Website Privacy Controls identifies common mistakes businesses make with tracking technologies and provides actionable steps to address them. In case you missed it: Last week, a Texas federal court put the brakes on the FTC’s proposed nationwide ban on non-compete agreements. This allows employers to continue using state-specific non-compete clauses to protect key relationships and confidential information. While this decision clears things up for now, it’s a good idea to stay tuned—an appeal from the FTC could still be on the way. https://lnkd.in/g4tQwCi5 #ftc #noncompete #employmentlaw

Proud of Kaylee Lahti, who recently worked with us as an Office Messenger and is now starting law school this fall! 🎉 Her paper on privacy legislation won the student competition at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business Centennial Conference—such a fantastic achievement! Congratulations, Kaylee! Excited to see all you accomplish as you take this next step in your career.
This past weekend, I had the honor of representing UNO in Washington, D.C. at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business Centennial Conference! During this conference, I presented my paper, titled "The Right to Unplug: Consumer Protection in the Era of Data Mining", which focuses on privacy legislation for American consumers online. And, at the end of the conference, I was elated to be announced as this year's winner of the student competition! This was a truly amazing experience all around! I'd like to give a very special thanks to Destynie Sewell, J.D., M.B.A. for her continued mentorship and for her invaluable guidance on my paper. Additionally, I'd like to thank the University of Nebraska at Omaha for providing me with an amazing undergraduate experience and aiding me in attending this conference. In the future, I hope to continue my research in pursuit of guaranteeing comprehensive privacy legislation for American consumers.
