September 30 is National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Today, Koniag honors the hundreds of thousands of Indigenous children from across the United States and Canada who were removed from their homes and placed in boarding schools where they were stripped of their traditional cultures, languages, and ways of life. Many of these children faced abuse, neglect, and some never returned to their families. Learn more about the Alutiiq Museum and their work to repatriate the remains of our Alutiiq ancestors from boarding schools at https://lnkd.in/gAQikXWF.
