Einstein is quoted as having said that if he had one hour to save the world, he would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem and only five minutes finding the solution. The founders of Konvivial (pronounced; con-viv-e-al) were inspired by this quote and the experiences gained over their combined 45 years of military and federal service. This stirred a passion and desire to assist organizations attempting to solve elusive problems with only partial or underwhelming results. After years of trial and error, and the realization that solutions aren’t inherently valuable apart from an identified problem, Konvivial embarked on a journey to develop a proven human-centered approach to problem-solving, thereby significantly enhancing insight, decision-making, and desired business outcomes for our clients. I just returned from a short trip to Hawaii with my wife. Every time we go, I’m mesmerized by the beauty of the islands, especially the little things. I'm reminded of just how great our God is!! Going to Hawaii also provides a powerful reminder of how important it is to regularly and intentionally turn off the noise (grind, hustle, etc.) around me. While blissfully bobbing around in the warm ocean, out in front of our gorgeous resort, my wife and I met a lovely couple from Portland, Oregon. The husband, a former Nike executive, the wife, a yoga and coffee shop entrepreneur. As we were chatting about life, the husband made a brief, yet remarkably impactful, statement that deeply resonated with my wife and I: “Self-care isn’t selfish!” Right then, it dawned on me that for as long as I can remember, I have regularly felt guilty for taking time off work. I would think about the mission, my team, or practically everything other than myself. The more time I took, the more guilt I felt. Bottom-Line: It really isn’t selfish to rest, restore, and recharge, especially for leaders. As many of us race toward the proverbial end-of-fiscal-year finish line, I want to remind and encourage you, and your teams, to prioritize self-care. Why? Because self-care boosts productivity, models healthy habits for you, your team, and your clients, and prevents needless burnout. Finally, self-care fosters creativity and strengthens essential relationships. As we continue to engage, grind, hustle, or whatever you are doing, please be sure to be unselfish, and make time for self-care. You, your team, your clients, and your loved ones will not only benefit, but will more than likely demand it. Cheers!!! ♥️💅🏾🏖️😎
