K-State Risk Management Center facilitated twenty-one risk management fellows visiting Koch to learn about risk optimization integrated into Koch’s well-respected Principle Base Management business approach. Thanks to Kristy Hoover for making the experience valuable and engagement possible. She provided a fantastic overview of Koch Industries & PBM. Layne Krizek offered the fellows insights into the comprehensive tools and analysis that allows Koch employees to be empowered to make risk optimal decisions to achieve objectives while allowing leadership to consider risk across the organization when making strategic, and profitable, long term investments. CRMER Guest Spreaker: John Howe On Tuesday, the fellows welcomed Dr. John Howe, author of 'The Foolish Corner: Avoiding Mind Traps in Personal Financial Decisions' and publisher of the monthly open access newsletter, Behavioral New World. During his visit, Dr. Howe shared with the group about the impact of individual and group biases on decision-making processes. He explored the challenges of replicating outcomes, drawing insights from the Reproducibility Project. The discussion looked into the complexities of honesty and the various ways incentives can shape decision-making, highlighting that financial incentives are not always the sole influencers. Managing K-State's Risk with Elliot Young:   We had the privilege of hosting Elliot Young, Assistant Vice President for Risk and Compliance at K-State, during our recent session.    Elliot provided insights into managing K-State's risk profile, including assessing the likelihood and severity of an event. From overseeing the university's insurance program to managing compliance risk, Elliot discussed the complexities of risk management in higher education. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing risks, conducting thorough analyses, and utilizing benchmarking to enhance preparedness. Elliot's encouragement to take calculated risks resonated with us, underscoring the importance of forward momentum in risk management. #CRMER #K-State

Student-Fellow Experience: Victoria Droge   In October, student-fellow Victoria Droge attended the Women in Engineering Conference in Los Angeles, California, where she learned about how to achieve success in a male-dominated field.    Among the diverse array of speakers, she explored risks associated with various aspects of being a woman in engineering, both professionally and personally. During a captivating panel session, CIA agents shared insights into risk mitigation strategies, offering glimpses into their work and home life balance.
