Congress passed SECURE 2.0 allowing a new feature for 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans that provide a matching contribution for their elective deferrals. For plan years beginning in 2024, this new optional opportunity is for the plan to treat Qualified Student Loan Payments (QSLPs) as if they were elective deferrals to the plan (even though they were not contributed to the plan) and to provide a matching contribution to the plan as if they were. Of course, this new wrinkle comes with a bevy of rules, recently issued by the IRS. @SHRM @401k @StudentLoans

Employers that offer prescription drug benefits are required to provide an annual notice to all Medicare-eligible plan participants and qualified beneficiaries before October 15th of each year, the start of the Medicare open enrollment period. Most send it to all participants. It's back to school time, which means it's time for Kushner & Company to prepare and deliver over 100 elementary school backpacks and supplies for economically disadvantaged students to the wonderful Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo. Supporting our local not-for-profits is a strong value for us, and we gladly pitch in to purchase, pack, and deliver these each year for over a decade. As part of our summer's Community Events team event, this year we added collecting items to support children and families accessing Bronson Children's Hospital. Bronson Children's Hospital is the only children’s hospital in southwest and south central Michigan with a full scope of pediatric services. They support patients and their families in a variety of ways including art and music therapy, crafts and activity packets as well as a family kitchen with a communal space for caregivers/families. Rather than seek out retirement plan consulting, many employers offer a take-it-or-leave-it retirement plan design in a document from their payroll or other provider. They assume that a 401(k) plan is just a 401(k) plan, not paying attention to the details contained in it. After all, don’t we just have to say we have a plan?
