📽 Earlier this year, in partnership with NYC Department of Small Business Services, La Colmena coordinated a video with Port Richmond business owners as part of the Shop Your City series. Shop Your City aims to highlight some of the vibrant small businesses that make up NYC. The 6 amazing Port Richmond businesses that were featured include: the Port Market, Mexico Supermarket Monte Alban, MMA Variedades, Lebanese Eatery, Yohngema’s Elegant Treasures, and Cafe Con Pan. About us
La Colmena NYC, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2014 by a group of day laborers, domestic workers and professional allies to establish an independent, membership-based organization that fully represents the immigrant workforce in Staten Island, NY. La Colmena’s mission is to empower the immigrant community through education, culture and economic development. The organizational goals are focused on three key priorities: immigrant workforce, community engagement and cultural organizing, in line with the priorities identified by our day laborer members, their families and the greater immigrant community in Staten Island.

Thank you Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga for the opportunity to invite our member Julie to share her story and advocate for the financial empowerment of children. 🙏 "As an immigrant mother, I know that every child, regardless of their immigration status, deserves the knowledge to budget, save, and invest, no matter their background. These are the tools that can transform lives and uplift entire communities."🌟 New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection

La Colmena busy bee at SOMOS, Inc. (fka Somos el Futuro, Inc.) conference in Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷🐝 Our busy bee showed up and showed out! During our time in Puerto Rico we connected with so many inspiring leaders and advocates, sharing ideas on how to better serve our communities. ✊🏽 Our executive director, Yesenia Mata , spoke at the Women Reshaping NYC’s Workforce Development to Empower Immigrant Workers & New Arrivals panel sponsored by Assemblywoman Marcela Mitayes. The panel included amazing advocates and the room filled with partners and supporters. On Day of Service we visited Hacienda La Esperanza in Manatí with Para la Naturaleza to connect with nature, learn about conservation efforts, and make a tangible impact in the local community. We are inspired by these conversations and look forward to what we can achieve together in NYC. Thank you Assemblymember Karines Reyes RN and Oscar Castillo ED Puerto Rican/Hispanic Taskforce for bringing us all together. P.S: Upload a picture and tag us if you found our busy bee at SOMOS! 📸🐝

Thank you Documented for covering the 5th Mexican Independence Day Parade on Staten Island. "Just seeing how little children scream ‘Viva Mexico’ and are so happy, so proud. This is something that stays with them,” said Yesenia Mata, Executive Director of La Colmena, a nonprofit organization that provides job readiness training, legal assistance and other services to the immigrant community in Staten Island. “You can never bring down someone who feels proud of their community. And I think that’s what we’re trying to do, to ensure that children grow up with that pride." 📰 Full Link Here: https://lnkd.in/g5Gmq3yJ
