Shop Your City aims to highlight some of the vibrant small businesses that make up NYC. The 6 amazing Port Richmond businesses that were featured include: the Port Market, Mexico Supermarket Monte Alban, MMA Variedades, Lebanese Eatery, Yohngema’s Elegant Treasures, and Cafe Con Pan. La Colmena busy bee at SOMOS, Inc. (fka Somos el Futuro, Inc.) conference in Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷🐝 Our busy bee showed up and showed out! During our time in Puerto Rico we connected with so many inspiring leaders and advocates, sharing ideas on how to better serve our communities. ✊🏽 Our executive director, Yesenia Mata , spoke at the Women Reshaping NYC’s Workforce Development to Empower Immigrant Workers & New Arrivals panel sponsored by Assemblywoman Marcela Mitayes. The panel included amazing advocates and the room filled with partners and supporters. On Day of Service we visited Hacienda La Esperanza in Manatí with Para la Naturaleza to connect with nature, learn about conservation efforts, and make a tangible impact in the local community. We are inspired by these conversations and look forward to what we can achieve together in NYC. Thank you Documented for covering the 5th Mexican Independence Day Parade on Staten Island. "Just seeing how little children scream ‘Viva Mexico’ and are so happy, so proud. This is something that stays with them,” said Yesenia Mata, Executive Director of La Colmena, a nonprofit organization that provides job readiness training, legal assistance and other services to the immigrant community in Staten Island. “You can never bring down someone who feels proud of their community.
