Our Board of Commissioners recently voted unanimously to put a $155 million referendum on the November 5 ballot. If passed, the funds will allow us to: ✅ Add new preserves and expand existing ones. ✅ Restore more preserves and improve water quality. ✅ Complete important trail connections. If approved, the estimated increase in property taxes on a home valued at $300,000 is just under $33 a year or $2.75 a month. By law, we are not able to advocate for the referendum. Our Ranger Police deserve a huge shoutout! 💙 While on duty near Barrington, Officer Molly Carl spotted a tiny, vulnerable opossum in the road. Its family was nearby and had sadly been hit by a car. With quick thinking, Molly used her Lake County Major Crime Task Force T-shirt to gently scoop up the little one and brought it to FLINT CREEK WILDLIFE REHABILITATION. The best part? The joey is safe, healthy and will be set free after spending a couple months with other opossums. 🌳 🌿 "I am so happy I was able to help save this little creature," Molly said Tuesday. 🐾 🌟 LCFPD.org/safety

On Monday, we had the privilege of showing off Greenbelt and the Greenbelt Farm in North Chicago to State Representative Joyce Mason and Michael Cotter, legislative director for State Representative Bob Morgan. Greenbelt has felt the effects of 150 years of settlement. We’re nursing it back to health with great success. Thank you to our friends at College of Lake County (CLC) for joining us to lead a tour of the Greenbelt Farm. In partnership with CLC, the 1-acre sustainable Farm is where youth and young adults can work, learn and grow a variety of produce to benefit the local community. 🌱: LCFPD.org/greenbelt
