The mission of the Lake Street Council is to ensure the vitality of the Lake Street corridor through business and community partnerships. Our vision is that Lake Street is a vital and prosperous community in which a common vision is shared by business owners, property owners, residents, and local government. The Lake Street Council’s role in the community is one of a passionate champion directing ideas, energy, and resources toward the continued revitalization of the Lake Street corridor. Together, we create a vibrant organization taking an active role in providing stewardship for the Lake Street corridor.

The first-ever Lake Street Mural Day was a success! Despite the rain, plenty of folks came out to dance, eat (cookies), and enjoy the murals! Thank you to those who made it special including Grace K. Rose and Caroline Burns of Goff Public! August 17, 2024, was proclaimed Lake Street Mural Day by the City of Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota thanks to their brilliant work!

Last week was another successful City of Minneapolis Black Business Week! Through a range of activities throughout the City, Black entrepreneurs were able to connect and discover resources to grow their businesses. Supporting Black business owners and entrepreneurs won't stop here -August is National Black Business Month!
I want to thank the City of Minneapolis and our Council member Jamal Osman along with his Ward 6 Staff for hosting another successful East African Resource Day as part of Black Business Week. It’s important to support our Small Business Owners on Lake Street and the rest of Minneapolis especially during these challenging times that we face with construction, safety, and so forth. It was an honor to sit with like-minded and brilliant East African Women Leaders in my community and emphasize the need to continue to support our community. I loved hearing all the positive remarks about Lake Street Council and the work that we do, and I hope you all can come out on August 17th, for Mural day, from 3-6 PM at 1601 E Lake Street, Minneapolis!

This 3-hour free family-friendly event will feature a festive sidewalk atmosphere filled with art, food, music, and activities. Individuals will have access to food and entertainment along Lake Street between 15th and 17th Ave, with a “check-in” area at 16th Ave and Lake Street.
