  • Check out the new additions at Kirkland Middle School featured on KING 5! 📣📺 Thanks to our voters, KiMS has eight new classrooms. Among them are several science classes and a food classroom equipped with ovens, stoves and refrigerators. Principal Niki Cassaro said the new extension means the school can now offer new electives it wasn't able to in the past. "We have seen a huge growth at Kirkland Middle School, about 200 students over the past few years," Cassaro said. "With our new foods classroom, we have a full day of opportunities for kids to learn about the intersection of foods, nutrition, health as well as the roles foods play in cultures." Kirkland Middle School, Finn Hill Middle School and Redmond Middle School all opened with classroom additions this year, funded by the 2022 Capital Projects Levy.

Today at Redmond Elementary was truly spectacular! The partnership and sense of community were at an all-time high. Under the auspices of the Lake Washington School District's Equity Department, Timberline Church, and many dedicated volunteers, our community came together for a fantastic Back-to-School event. School supplies were provided for elementary, middle, and high school students, helping families prepare for the first day of school on Tuesday. Timberline Church generously sponsored the food, grilling hamburgers and veggie burgers and serving over 1,000 people while I was there. The event featured: Community health and social services agencies. Three hair stylists offering free haircuts. A local ice cream store handing out delicious, refreshing treats. Bouncy houses and inflatables for the kids to enjoy. It was a spectacular way to usher in the first week of school. A big shout-out to Pablo Ortega Naeemah Webb Ann Bohrnsen Thola Shannon Hitch, Ed.D., NCSP Michael Clark Shannon Parthemer, APR Ava Van Matt Gillingham Lake Washington School District Sumeyye Cardakli, M.Ed. and everyone who made this day so special!
