About us

Lancaster EMS, a private, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization provides primary 9-1-1 emergency medical services to 21 municipalities in Lancaster County, PA. Our EMS service is indispensable to the safety of our communities. Lancaster EMS was formed in 1996 by several Lancaster hospitals divesting themselves of ambulance services to reduce costs. Lancaster EMS is not owned or operated by any hospital. We are governed by a 13-member board of trustees consisting of healthcare and community leaders. In addition to emergency medical care, Lancaster EMS also provides non-emergency medical transport services, EMT and Paramedic Education, public healthcare education programs, community paramedics, medical standby coverage at special events, and tactical paramedics to the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team. We are a member of the PA Strike Team responding to natural and manmade emergencies when requested. On every one of our calls, Lancaster EMS Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics (EMT-P) are prepared to deliver high quality, life-sustaining treatment to our community of over 260,000 within our 9-1-1 response area. We answer more than 100 requests for service each day; 38,969 requests for service in 2020. Our EMS service is indispensable to the safety of our communities.

🚦🚸 Back-to-School Road Safety Tips! 🚸🚦 As the school year begins, it's crucial to keep road safety top of mind. Here’s how we can all help make our roads safer for students: 1. Drive Carefully in School Zones 🚘 - Adhere to posted speed limits and always be on the lookout for crossing guards. - Avoid using your phone or getting distracted while driving near schools. 2. Watch for School Buses 🔎 - Stop when the bus’s stop sign is extended and wait until the children are safely off the road before driving away. - Never pass a bus with its lights flashing. 3. Be Aware of Pedestrians🚶🏾♂️➡️ - Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and make sure they have completely crossed before moving. - Slow down when driving in areas where children are likely to be present. 4. Encourage Safe Walking and Biking 🚲 - Remind children to use sidewalks where available and to cross streets at designated crosswalks. - Ensure they are visible to drivers with bright clothing and bike lights if riding in low light. 5. Avoid Parking in Restricted Areas 🙅🏻♀️ - Do not park in or block drop-off zones, crosswalks, or areas designated for school buses. - Follow all parking regulations to ensure children can safely enter and exit vehicles. 6. Stay Alert During Drop-off and Pick-up Times ⏰ - Be patient and follow school procedures to keep traffic flowing smoothly. - Keep an eye out for children running or walking in unexpected places. 7. Educate Your Kids About Road Safety 📚 - Talk to them about the importance of looking both ways before crossing the street. - Teach them to avoid distractions like phones and headphones while walking or biking. Let’s work together to ensure a safe journey for all students this school year! 🌟🚸 #BackToSchool #RoadSafety #DriveSafely #SchoolZones #SafeKids #CommunitySafety #EMS #Lancaster #newschoolyear #PA #safetytips

We are thrilled to announce that Lancaster EMS has been awarded a $20,000 grant from United Way of Lancaster County, PA as a part of their Level Up & Launch initiative. Even better, this grant is being matched, doubling the impact of every dollar we raise from Thursday, June 27, through Friday, November 15, at midnight. These funds are going towards our EMT Academy: a hands-on, 'earn while you learn' program, providing rigorous training and full-time employment upon completion. With six successful semesters under our belt, we've seen nearly all of our graduates become certified EMTs, ready to serve our community. This grant will help cover various operational and staffing expenses to grow and enhance the academy. Your support will make a significant difference in preparing the next generation of EMTs who will be there for our community in times of need. Thank you for your continued dedication to Lancaster EMS. Together, we can level up and launch our EMT Academy to new heights! Ready to donate? The American Red Cross is currently facing an emergency blood shortage due to extreme heat and increased summer travel. Since July 1, the national blood supply has fallen by over 25%, creating an urgent need for donations. 💪🏼Why Your Donation Matters❤️🩹 The heat impacted over 100 blood drives in July, leading to a shortfall of more than 19,000 donations. Hospitals are experiencing high demand for blood products, which are being used faster than they’re being replenished. Type O blood, critical for emergency and trauma care, is particularly in short supply. It’s essential that hospitals have both type O positive and O negative blood available for patients in life-threatening situations. The Red Cross is working tirelessly with hospitals to meet these needs, but they can’t do it alone. 🔗 How You Can Help👇🏼 Donate Blood: Make an appointment through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). 💰Get a Reward🔈 All donors from August 1-31, 2024, will receive a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card by email as a thank-you. For more details, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Help. Your donation is crucial and can make a significant difference. Join us in helping to address this urgent need! #DonateBlood #BloodShortage #SaveLives #CommunitySupport #RedCross #GiveBlood

We’re getting hit with a lot of rain lately, creating the potential for flash flooding, which can happen suddenly and with little warning. Your safety is our top priority, so here are some important Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind: ✅Stay Informed: Monitor local weather updates and alerts. Knowledge is your first line of defense! ✅Move to Higher Ground: If you're in a flood-prone area, evacuate immediately to higher ground. ✅Secure Your Home: If there's time, move valuable items to higher floors and disconnect electrical appliances. ✅Prepare an Emergency Kit: Keep an emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, and important documents in a waterproof container, ready to go in case of evacuation. ✅Turn Around, Don’t Drown: If you're driving and encounter flooded roads, turn around. Most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. ❌Don’t Ignore Warnings: If authorities advise evacuation, don’t wait! Your safety is more important than possessions. ❌Don’t Walk or Drive Through Floodwaters: Even shallow water can be dangerous, hiding fast currents or debris. ❌Don’t Attempt to Swim Through Floodwaters: Strong currents can sweep you away, and the water may be contaminated. ❌Don’t Touch Electrical Equipment: If you’re standing in water or your home is flooded, avoid any contact with electrical devices. ❌Don’t Return to Affected Areas Too Soon: Wait for official confirmation that it’s safe to return, as floodwaters can recede slowly and leave hazards behind. #severeweather #FlashFloodSafety #flashflood #LancasterPA #SevereWeatherPreparedness
