#InPower - Educating towards parity, access and wealth generation for communities of BIPOC women and Latinas!

About us

The empowerment of Latinas continues to grow with all BIPOC women in this nation - - as a powerful body with the ability to have a positive global and economic impact. We are an integral part of the economy. Any product, service or issue we choose to SURGE, will make a significant difference. As such, we highlight and reward companies that treat women with parity, with appreciation for our contributions, and with inclusion in the workforce. Our mission is to advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, and to seek representation on corporate and government boards, reflective of the diversity of our growing dynamic in American society at large. Our organization effectuates inclusion by energetically empowering Latinas and other underrepresented individuals to access education, networking, technology and supply chains. Our vision is to lead from the top-down. We aim to SURGE vigorously towards a most effective workforce and nation, one where diversity is understood, valued and embraced.

Latina Surge National/Lean In Latina Surge Network presents a LinkedIn Live Author Spotlight Event on Supporting the Educational Future of Black and Brown Boys Join us for an in depth discussion with the experts on educational issues and strategies relating to Black and Brown boys with Latine award-winning author of 'Am I My Brother's Keeper: Educational Opportunities and Outcomes for Black and Brown Boys' (Harvard Educational Press) and Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Dr. Adriana Villavicencio, and Diversity Global Magazine's 2023 Top 15 Champion of Diversity and NJIT Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. David E. Jones. Am I My Brother’s Keeper Overview: Am I My Brother’s Keeper? offers powerful insights into the challenges of implementing large-scale educational change. The book, chronicling the Expanded Success Initiative (ESI), a four-year study focused on improving the educational outcomes of fifteen thousand Black and Latinx males in New York City public high schools, covers what worked, what didn’t, and what we can learn from the experience. Bios: Dr. Adriana Villavicencio's research is focused on K-12 educational policy and practice that deepen or disrupt inequities for students who are typically marginalized because of race, ethnicity, and immigration status. Specifically, she uses mixed-methods designs and community-engaged approaches to study the implementation and impact of models and interventions that aim to meet the needs of historically marginalized students, while highlighting the voices and experiences of educators, families, and students. Dr. Villavicencio has received over $11 million in grants from several different funding sources, including the National Science Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the William T. Grant Foundation. Dr. David E. Jones - Named by DiversityGlobal Magazine as a 2023 Top 15 Champion of Diversity, Dr. David E. Super interesting guests next week on my online interview series for Lean IN. A multiple Academy Award-winning film and television producer, and a famous author / biographer will talk about their upcoming tv series, 'Eleanor.' It's kind of like America's version of the British series, 'The Crown' - about Eleanor Roosevelt. Not a history buff? No worries. We're going to be talking about Eleanor's incomparable leadership, her huge impact on global human rights, gender equality, activism, and more. So much of what Eleanor started are still issues that we're still dealing with today. So, the show's producers are creating a nonprofit to help foster the continuation of some of her causes. I chose to interview these creative people because of their mission for creating this television series. They want to "Revitalize the belief in democracy!" I love that! Please register (it's free) even if you can't join in, we'll send you the replay. Register Here: https://lnkd.in/e5wn84HA Please register even if you can't see it live because I'll send you the replay. And please spread the word by sharing this post. #womenempowerment #history #film #leadership #eleanorroosevelt #womenleaders #author_event #humanrights #activism #inspiration

#LatinosBeyondReel is a must see (link below)!! Understanding the lack of representation our Latine community accesses despite our growing demographic and major contributions in society, last year, Latina Surge National/Lean In Latina Surge contributed to LGBTQ+ productions by Louis E. Perego Moreno, interactive content producer who owns SKYLINE FEATURES, a bilingual (English and Spanish-language) multimedia and educational production company focusing on culture, youth, women and health. If you want to learn more about the egregious lack of coverage as a result of biased media, blocking important Latine experiences and voice from mainstream, please join the discussion with #NJPAC Free on Zoom, TONIGHT, Mon, Oct 21 @ 7PM. The link to the film is listed below. From NJPAC: In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the culture, traditions and contributions of Latin people — we’re spotlighting an area where inequality and stereotyping persist: depictions of Latin Americans in television and film. The harm of negative portrayals lingers long after the episode or movie ends. What appears on screen informs public opinion which can then be exploited for political gain, lead to housing or employment discrimination or used to provoke violence against people of Latin American descent. What can be done to accurately portray Latin Americans in popular media? Additionally, how can visibility be increased and opportunities created for Latino actors, producers, screenwriters and directors? Our PSEG True Diversity film is Latinos Beyond Reel, a documentary about how Latinos are marginalized and vilified in the U.S. media with critical consequences. How to participate: Register Watch Latinos Beyond Reel for free at home. Join us for a virtual panel discussion on Mon, Oct 21, at 7PM. Our panel will be moderated by Neyda Martinez, independent producer, Sundance Documentary Producer Lab Fellow, founder of Habana/Harlem® and director of the Media Management Graduate Program and associate professor of Professional Practice in Media Management at The New School. Our panelists include: #LillianJimenez, a retired educator, producer/director and arts administrator who taught media studies and now volunteers with not-for-profit organizations and undocumented people. #RaúlRubio, associate professor of Hispanic Studies and Chair of Languages at The New School who’s known for his research on Cuban visual and material cultures. #Louis E. Perego Moreno, interactive content producer who owns SKYLINE FEATURES, a bilingual (English and Spanish-language) multimedia and educational production company focusing on culture, youth, women and health. How would you react to your boss scheduling a meeting with you to inform you that the company would be cutting your salary by 45%...as in you would only be making $0.55 cents for every dollar you once earned? Outraged? Well, today is Latina Equal Pay Day. It is a day that presents an opportunity for all rising professionals to better understand, discuss, #share and address the negative impacts of pay gaps on multicultural women, the most affected of whom are Latinas which in fact experience a 45% differential in pay on average across all business sectors. With the question posed, one can only imagine the set-backs that a pay gap creates in one's life...and the lives of that family. Wealth generation becomes simply unattainable. I am personally very proud of the 10 years of advocacy the volunteers of Latina Surge National nonprofit and our Lean In Latina Surge Network have driven to address pay gaps for Latinas and other groups of women...helping them to self empower and negotiate better financial terms and conditions for themselves. Special thanks to the Lean In Organization for years of dedication researching the impacts to women via Women in the Workplace Report so that we can learn together from the data and strategies! Let's address systemic change so that we can truly move the needle for 2025! Lean In

Today is Latina Equal Pay Day, an important day to share awareness on the EXTREME differential in pay that Latinas experience across the workplace, regardless of sector. Latinas experience a 45% differential in pay, which means Latinas only make $0.55 per $1.00 that their male non-Latino White counterparts make in 2024. Kudos to our very own Latina Surge National VP Valeria Aloe who has driven awareness as a recognized award-winning published author of #UncolonizedLatinas and more recently #LatinasImparables. Approximately three years ago, Valeria originated the #RisingTogetherMovement to support the advancement of Latinas on major issues like Latina Equal Pay. #LatinaSurgeNational has proactively sponsored training sessions with hundreds of women in New Jersey, New York and Boston. Gracias Valeria, and all women and allies, helping to close the pay gap for the most negatively impacted multicultural women across our country!

Latina Pay Gap day…another year and the needle is not moving. It took a Latina woman, on average, working this entire year plus all of 2023 to make what a non-diverse male made in just 2023. My invitation: work on your worth, do your homework on how to ask and negotiate, and take action to close your pay gap. Some ideas in the visuals below ⚡️ #risingtogethermovement #uncolonizedlatinas #unbeatablelatinas #latinasimparables #hispanicheritagemonth #latinapaygap

Latina Surge National/Lean In Latina Surge Network invites you to our 🔸4th LinkedIn Live - Latine Author Marathon Event on Tuesday, May 21st from 7:30pm to 9:00pm ET! The theme of this event is the Author Publishing Journey. 🔸Our special guest is dynamic Professor Eric Koester who leads the Book Creator Program at Georgetown University. You will want to have a notebook and pen ready to take notes on all he has to share about what it takes to become a published author, as well as how his program has supported the journeys of thousands of authors. How Professor Koester describes himself… I'm an author who decided to turn a bedtime story with my kids into a novel, following in the footsteps of JRR Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson). Truly the most fun writing project I've ever had. Our pandemic bedtime story -- The Pennymores & the Curse of the Invisible Quill -- has become a book series reviewed by New York Weekly, Los Angeles Weekly, Latin Post, and more with the first title out in April 2022 (and hopefully more in the series to follow). You'll find me writing nonfiction books (fourth out in Summer 2022), teaching entrepreneurship, innovation, & writing at Georgetown University, leading a community of writers and authors at Manuscripts.com, and trying to keep up with a houseful of three daughters. We are also super excited to feature two Latine authors who emerged from the Book Creator Program: 🔸Leia Baez, MPA: Author of A Star for Stella 🔸Sam Perez: Author of Deviate from Denial  We look forward to your participation!
