We're dealing with so many crises all at once, but that also means we're learning at a faster pace. "We're talking about meaningful, revolutionary, anti-colonial, abolitionist analysis, and then how to put that into practice in the long term," says "Border and Rule & Undoing Border Imperialism" author Harsha Walia on this week's #podcast. About us
The Laura Flanders Show began in 2001 as a daily radio program on Air America Radio to engage listeners in a deep dive into the most pressing issues of the times. In 2008, supported by Free Speech TV, Laura moved to television, beginning GRITtv, a daily national news show that covered the Financial Crisis from the grassroots up. After several years, the show moved to KCET/Link TV and teleSUR, where it ran as a weekly program called The Laura Flanders Show. The Laura Flanders Show launched on PBS stations across the United States in 2020, airing in 20 of the country’s top 25 television markets. In the spring of 2024, the show entered its fifth season on public television and rebranded to Laura Flanders & Friends. To find your local listing, check out our TV schedules.

In the spring of 2023, Laura Flanders traveled to central Louisiana to report on a bold experiment in restorative economics, regenerative rice production, and asset ownership in the form of a rice mill. That report, "Jubilee Justice Regenerative Farming: Tackling Racism with Rice," is an Anthem Awards finalist in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion category! The episode is also in the running for the Community Voice Award, but we need your support. Visit celebrate.anthemawards.com and cast your vote for the episode today. There's a big difference between earning votes and expecting them. ". . . We know every single fall in an election season that Black women get told we're the saviors of the entire world and everything relies on us," says Rachel Herzing, Co-Author of "How to Abolish Prisons: Lessons from the Movement Against Imprisonment." "Even though the rest of the time it's very happily that we're kind of left to die, quite literally." In this panel discussion recorded at this year's #SocialismConference, hear why many organizers and activists aren't counting on politicians to step into office and grant their wishes. This Indigenous Peoples' Day, we must take the time to acknowledge past and present-day colonialism. It's a superstructure that impacts just about every facet of our lives, and yet so many of us seem to forget that. "Canada and the United States are settler colonial entities, and that's directly related to their imperialist policies," says journalist and author Nick Estes, citizen of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. "And it's like, I don't know why I have to keep saying that." 🎥: Find "Not Party to Party Politics: Movement Leaders Consider Election ‘24" on the Laura Flanders & Friends YouTube channel and podcast platforms: bit.ly/403VciK

Exactly one month ago, billionaire Elon Musk amplified a post that appeared to suggest that Democracy would work better if voting was restricted only to "high status males." This matters in a context where around the country the right to vote is under attack as states push for new voter ID laws, eliminate same-day voter registration and fail to address voter intimidation. Meanwhile, the former president told the Fraternal Order of Police weeks ahead of the election to "Watch for the voter fraud... believe it or not, they’re afraid of that badge." This matters in a context where around the country vigilante-type “election integrity” watchdogs and poll watcher groups are forming. I had the opportunity to talk about who gets to vote safely, who is being excluded from participating in democracy and barriers disproportionately impacting BIPOC voters with Laura Flanders & Friends (formerly The Laura Flanders Show), “Empire City” host Chenjerai Kumanyika and reporter Christopher Lomahquahu.
