Lawrence County was well-represented in Knoxville last week at the Governor’s Conference on Economic & Community Development hosted by the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development (TNECD) and the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development (TDLWD). “GovCon 2024” brought together more than 800 economic development practitioners, chamber officials, department staff, and elected officials, including Governor Bill Lee and members of the TN General Assembly to discuss various topics, including industrial site development, policy surrounding artificial intelligence, workforce development, and how to leverage music to enhance quality of life. Our very own Vic Pusser, CEO of Lawrenceburg Utility Systems, led a session on utility infrastructure, the importance of being prepared for growth, and how to leverage that preparedness as an incentive for new development. Thank you for the hospitality, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development!

This morning, we had the privilege of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Harwell & Plant Attorneys at Law with an Open House! Founded as Harwell, Bottoms, & Plant in 1974, the firm has been a cornerstone of Lawrence County's community of legal professionals. Their team is committed to delivering quality service, deeply grounded in tradition while constantly looking ahead to the future. Beyond the courtroom, Paul, his family, and the entire Harwell & Plant team gives back by promoting the performing arts, supporting charities, and leading civic organizations. A huge thanks to everyone who came together to celebrate this significant milestone!

This morning, we celebrated the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of Lawrenceburg Parks and Recreation's brand-new tennis and pickleball courts! We had a wonderful morning with local residents, students, and community leaders coming together to mark this fantastic addition to our recreational facilities. Pam Hyde, who led this project with incredible dedication, was joined by city and county officials to cut the ribbon and officially open the six tennis courts and four pickleball courts. These courts will serve the public and schools across Lawrence County, providing a new space for athletic growth and community engagement. We're thrilled to see the positive impact this will have on Lawrence County!

Celebrating Manufacturing Week in Lawrence County, TN Last week, Lawrence County proudly observed Manufacturing Week, a time to celebrate the tremendous impact of manufacturing on our community— past, present, and in the years ahead. We kicked off the week with a Manufacturers Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday morning and hosted two days of industry tours at some of the county’s manufacturing sites. Students, local government officials, members of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Chamber Board, Ambassadors, and Young Professionals had the opportunity to explore facilities at Graphic Packaging Inc., Blickman, Flexco, Craig Manufacturing, and Old South Wood. These tours provided an inside look into the heart of our local economy, offering a deeper appreciation for the work that keeps Lawrence County strong.
