I am Mason Archie, II, a 2L JD/MBA candidate at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. During my 1L year, I served as Vice President of the National Bar Association Law Students Division (NBALSD). I chose to attend law school with a clear purpose: to change the narrative in corporate law and help increase the representation of Black lawyers nationwide, which currently stands at just 5%. My goal is to earn the Corporate and Commercial Graduate Certificate at IU McKinney Law and ultimately pursue a long-term career in corporate law. Recently, I worked in nonprofit fundraising for the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic. During my time there, I played a key role in expanding the Housing and Consumer Justice Program, securing unrestricted funds from private and church donors, and winning grant funding from the Eli Lilly Foundation and the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Foundation. Before law school, I studied philosophy at Davidson College and Indiana University Indianapolis. I also had the privilege of playing Division I college basketball and competing professionally in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. With more than a decade of experience in legal operations, I’ve had the opportunity to work at Fortune 500 companies such as Arbonne International and Philips Sonicare, where I specialized in mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, brand protection, and compliance. My career also includes roles in the fashion industry as a Brand Manager for Michael Kors and Macy’s. In 2016, I took on the role of Manager of Legal Affairs at Tillys, independently managing their legal department. I further developed my leadership at 5.11 Tactical, where I handled intellectual property management, anti-counterfeiting, retail compliance, and data security. Most recently, I became the first legal hire at a.k.a. Brands in 2021, where I'm the company's fashion law specialist and led the development of the company’s legal operations. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Marketing and Management from The Art Institute of California – Hollywood, a legal education from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, and a certificate in Fashion Law and Technology from Fordham Law School’s Fashion Law Institute. Recently, I launched the Instagram channel @_fashionlawandorder_  to create a platform that spotlights the intersection of fashion law and legal operations. I have also co-authored an article published in The Fashion Law Journal and contributed multiple pieces to the Association of Corporate Counsel, where I explored the dynamics and challenges of managing small legal operations teams.

My desire to attend law school was driven by love. Love for the community that has cared for me throughout life and whose sacrifices have allowed me to occupy the spaces I am in today. Like many of the people I serve, my family and I left Mexico when I was only a toddler for the purposes of seeking safety and economic security. Though I had the privilege of a lawful pathway to the US, our adjustment to Los Angeles was one filled with obstacles and injustices. In our times of need, it was the immigrant community and others that stood in solidarity, offering us support and even refuge. At an early age, I became aware as to the adversities faced by my community and used it as motivation to become involved in the immigrant rights movement while just a high school student. Now, many years later, I still feel accomplished in reaching my goal of becoming an immigration attorney and feel tremendously privileged to serve others as an act of love in honor of my ancestors, family and community. This same love drove me to establish Loyola Law School’s Immigrant Justice Clinic (LIJC). LIJC’s mission is to serve the immigrant community in LA by providing free humanitarian legal services and training future immigration practitioners. Since the our inception in 2012, we have maintained a 95% success rate, have served thousands in securing an immigration remedy, and have trained over 120 law students in immigrant rights advocacy. Now, we are taking the second step in formally expanding our clinic thru the formation of Loyola’s Binational Migrant Advocacy Project to serve both migrants in transit and deportee community in Guadalajara and Tijuana, Mexico. I consider this project “homecoming,” because I will now have the opportunity to serve the in the immigrant community in my country of birth, while building a network of binational advocates that are connected in the US and in Mexico. Though immigration law and policy can make our work difficult, I still wake up very excited for the impact my students. Hope you follow us to learn more about the progress of work @loyolaijc. La lucha sigue, but so do we! H. Marissa Montes #lawyerstories #immigration #loyola

I always imagined I’d become a doctor. Growing up in Toronto, Ontario, I was driven by a desire to help people, and my undergrad years reflected that path. Despite doing well in my pre-med courses, I felt that something was missing. Looking to find that fulfillment, I enrolled in a criminology program in Australia. It was there that I found my true passion—law. The legal system’s complexity and the opportunity to advocate for justice excited me in a way medicine hadn’t. This shift led me to pursue a law degree in Australia. After returning to Ontario and obtaining my law license, I joined a private practice as an Associate. In that role, I developed my skills in research, negotiation, and litigation. Over time, I expanded my practice to include immigration, wills and estates, real estate law, LTB, and business. My name is Megan Senese, co-founder and principal of stage (www.stage.guide). I fell into professional services marketing and business development starting with accounting (originally thinking KPMG was a radio station) and then moved into big law supporting lawyers and helping them increase revenue. After 16 years of corporate life, and several big law firms later, I quit. 2 weeks later, I co-launched a women-owned legal marketing and business development company for law firms and lawyers. While most consultants blah blah AT you, I DO the work FOR you. Lawyers have to strike the right balance of service delivery with their own marketing and client targeting. My role is to help you skip the stress and reduce the decision fatigue over which marketing and business development steps to take and where to focus through execution. I leverage my Gallup strengths of discipline + achiever to act as an accountability partner to get it done (nickname is super speedy Senese). I help lawyers + marketing teams with actionable ways to grow authentic relationships, revenue, and visibility through our 1:1 coaching, workshops and fractional services.
