I am family law attorney and owner of my own Law Firm, WLA Family Law, with a deep-rooted passion for advocating on behalf of vulnerable clients. I was initially drawn to law school with the intention of focusing on policy, specifically in relation to combatting and prosecuting human trafficking. My freshman year of high school, my teacher assigned me the topic of human trafficking a research paper. During my research, I learned the magnitude of modern-day slavery in our current world, even learning that a neighbor of mine from when I was a kid, was in fact convicted of human trafficking after keeping a domestic servitude human trafficking victim as his housekeeper for over a decade. This realization of how ignorant I had been on a huge issue happening on my doorstep created a lifetime’s worth of passion. However, instead of fighting human trafficking from a legislative standpoint, my career took a more hands-on path after I spent a pivotal summer representing human trafficking victims with the Legal Aid Society of New York City in their South Bronx office. There, I witnessed firsthand how victims were erroneously charged with prostitution and other offenses, igniting a passion in me for courtroom advocacy and rewriting these types of wrongs. Fighting for such a vulnerable community of survivors, led me to a career committed to advocacy in the Courtroom. Today, as I have shifted my practice to focus on advocating for parents struggling their way through Family Court, that advocacy is what sets WLA Family Law apart. At 31 years old, I have built a thriving law practice and a supportive community through social media, using these platforms to empower and educate individuals stuck in complex and challenging family law cases. My reach has expanded to tens of thousands of people and is entirely built on providing advocacy and education to the people who have been unheard by our judicial system. Whitney L. My name is Maher Milad Iskander, and I am the Managing Partner at Andersen Egypt, part of the Andersen Global network, which connects leading legal professionals across the world. When I decided to pursue law at Cairo University, it was driven by a deep commitment to creating a positive impact on the legal landscape in Egypt. I saw the potential of law to bring about real change and believed that, with dedication, I could contribute to that transformation. This vision guided me from the very start of my career. In 1986, almost 40 years ago, I founded my firm with the same dedication, treating every case with the seriousness and care it deserved. For me, law has never been just a profession—it’s been a way to ensure that justice writes the final chapter. With each case, I’ve learned that it’s not the obstacles that define success, but the persistence and belief in the impact we can create. 9 years ago, I got on a plane to New York and never looked back. Could I ever have thought that life turned out in such a way that being raised in one of the average towns in Russia led me to practice on Wall Street? Coming to the US without connections gave me only one choice - to be decisive and consistent in achieving my goals. My law degree and experience in Russia gave me the opportunity to be enrolled in the LLM at Fordham Law School with a scholarship. Imperfective language, costly education and unknown if I could succeed and pass the Bar were making me feel unsure and risky. Eventually it became one of the pivotal decisions in my life. Prior to join the Security Litigation practice, I interned with the judges in the New York Supreme Court, in both Civil and Commercial divisions, and worked at litigation boutiques on commercial and copyright cases in federal and state courts involving America’s top celebrities, giving me a solid start in further developing my litigation skills. There were thousands of resumes submitted, hundreds of handshakes, dozens of events, and a lot of “No.” All this has given me the skill to confidently collaborate with professionals in American culture and the immunity to never take a “no”, from someone who can’t give a “yes.” Now, I practice in a highly competitive environment on Wall Street providing advocacy to clients in the financial services industry, public and private companies, hedge funds, investors, broker-dealers, venture capital firms, and ultra-high net worth individuals. It is a daily challenge to both professional and personal skills. High speed of perception information and demands in the male dominated field, finance, just help me grow. And when I walk into a room with the most talented professionals working with all amazing jobs, I see it as a place of strength with so many opportunities, motivation, and the biggest advantages.
