On September 24, we welcomed Deputy Assistant Director of the Office of Training at the U.S. Secret Service, Darnelly De Jesus, to the LAYC Rita Bright Family and Youth Center! She shared her incredible journey of joining the Secret Service and spent time reading "Perla's Magical Goodbye" by one of our youth authors to our young people. She also helped with arts and crafts as our kids made flags to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! 📚✨
About us
The mission of the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood through multi-cultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. Since 1968, LAYC has been committed to transforming the lives of low-income young people and their families. LAYC offers multi-service, comprehensive, and bilingual enrichment, prevention, and intervention programs and opportunities in education, workforce readiness, housing, community building, mental health services, arts, and healthy recreation to over 4,000 individuals each year. LAYC has special expertise in serving underserved youth, low-income teen parents, homeless youth, youth in foster care and juvenile justice systems, and youth facing mental health, substance abuse, or complex family issues. While LAYC initially worked with Latino youth of diverse backgrounds, today all youth -- Latino, African American, African -- are supported by LAYC at sites in the District of Columbia and Maryland's Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.

We’re back with another #TBT! LAYC staff and youth came together at our Montgomery County site to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an event full of delicious food and fun activities, including gardening, video games, and tote bag designing. At LAYC, we’re proud to celebrate diversity and empower our youth to embrace their culture. 🙌💫 “It was a fun event because I learned more about the history of Latin countries' independence. It was also fun doing activities with AmeriCorps members.” – Angie H., Conservation Corps Member
