Improving Patient Access to Cancer Clinical Trials

About us

Lazarex Cancer Foundation improves patient access to cancer clinical trials. Our founder, Dana Dornsife, first became involved in cancer patient advocacy in 2003 when her brother-in-law, Mike Miller, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Mike and his wife Erin had three children, the youngest of whom was only four years old. Dana searched for options for Mike that would give their family some additional time together and found a clinical trial. Mike participated in the clinical trial, responded well and lived long enough to help his sons prepare for their future and for his daughter to remember him. In 2006, Dana founded Lazarex Cancer Foundation. Since then, Lazarex has fought tirelessly for patient advocacy and the expansion of available resources on behalf of those cancer patients who have been told they have run out of medical options and there is no hope left. The vision of Lazarex Cancer Foundation is that everyone affected by cancer will have hope, dignity, support and the most advanced treatments made available to them at all stages of their journey.

“The moment I saw what Lazarex Cancer Foundation can do, I said, ‘I need this.’” At the Rooftop Sunsets Gala, George Aquino told Laura Evans about his experience with the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB, where he accessed resources and information to support his cancer fight. The HUBs operate in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and the East Bay, offering a community-led approach to help us reach those who need support most. We are proud to partner with Monument Crisis Center to reach neighbors in need. We are grateful that George is part of our Lazarex family.💙 Read George’s story by visiting:  https://lnkd.in/gskhPCE9 #lazarexcf #cancerresearch #cancertreatment #cancerawareness #fightcancer #cancerwarrior #cancersupport #cancerclinicaltrials

  • If you or a loved one is diagnosed with lung cancer, know first and foremost that you are not alone. Lazarex Cancer Foundation can connect you to low/no cost genomic testing, clinical trial navigation, and refer you to organizations that have both lung cancer specific and general cancer resources such as insurance navigation, mentoring/support groups, and financial resources. • When Diana Singh was diagnosed with breast cancer in Kauai, Hawaii, local treatment options were limited. A clinical trial at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore offered hope, but she needed to relocate her family for months. Diana, her husband, and two daughters moved to Baltimore from April through July 2022. The unexpected costs of relocation and treatment were daunting, but Lazarex Cancer Foundation provided crucial financial support. "Without Lazarex's help, this would have been so much more stressful," Diana says. "Having this financial support makes a world of difference.” As we celebrate #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, we are grateful that Diana is part of our Lazarex family. We are committed to making cancer treatment accessible to all through our advocacy and community outreach. Read Diane’s full story by visiting: https://lnkd.in/eZQQjURA

  • Shortly after becoming a caregiver to Pedro, her husband of 33 years, Lourdes Valdez began to miss being out and about. She wanted to support her husband through every step of his battle with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer — but she also felt isolated. That’s why frequent calls and check-ins with Wendy Pech have become an important part of the couple’s cancer journey. They met Wendy, a Lazarex Cancer Care Companion, at the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA — part of our Cancer Wellness HUB program designed to connect underserved communities with healthcare resources. Wendy's regular check-ins have become crucial for the couple. She brings sewing materials to occupy Lourdes' mind and healthy food for Pedro. "It helps my anxiety," Lourdes says. "Having Wendy come by feels like a genuine friendship." Pedro, a prostate cancer survivor, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma five years ago. Though he recently paused chemotherapy due to side effects, the couple expects to have a new treatment plan soon. We are grateful that Pedro and Lourdes are part of our Lazarex family. #lazarexcf #cancerresearch #cancertreatment #cancerclinicaltrials
